Many people felt Talley was our best player. Yet he did not start for most of the season. But was great coming off the bench. Green in a similar role is not a statement on his ability in relation to Haynes.

Yes, that is why I said "From afar". You know what else is far... our last NCAA tournament game.

"Some" may have thought that Talley was terrific, but I sure didn't. Also, in what world does it make since to keep one of your best players on the bench? #stoptheexcuses
No one has said Green will be kept on the bench, just not starting. It has been and always be about minutes played and who is on the floor in the last seven minutes of a game

Yeah, that is what they say when someone who is expected to start isn't.

Look, I am sure Green and Hueitt will be fine players in time, but they are freshman. I am only speaking to the fact that a lot of folks thought we were going to exceed expectation due to their arrival. That, frankly, is pretty unreasonable at our level and the fact they are not starting and Haynes is seems to confirm that, for now at least. Those guys are like most good freshman, not ready to make a massive impact on a middle of the pack CUSA team.

Two questions for you:

1. Did you (and anyone here) really expect the true freshmen to make an impact right away? I think they will provide valuable minutes as the year goes on, but you cannot deny the experience Haynes has over both of them.

2. Do you understand that it doesn't matter what the starting lineup is? Playing time > starting. Just because Green isn't a starter doesn't mean he won't log in the most minutes at the position. Just because he is starting doesn't automatically mean the staff thinks Haynes is better than Green.

I remember both Richard Ross and Chris Cooper coming off the bench late in their careers, but then generally playing most of the game.

Has anyone seen (or heard anything) about the Euro kid? I'm assuming he's still getting acclimated to his surroundings, but just curious.

The example that stands out most for me was Valdas in his prime.

Coach Taylor would routinely hold him out of the first two or three minutes of the game, in order to allow the refs to get the ticky-tack fouls out of their system. Once the tenor of the foul-calling for that particular game was established, Valdas would come in to play his hard-nosed defense accordingly.

He is a little taller than 6-2. But he is no PF that is for sure. You have to consider for the team photo that he is sitting on the front row with all the guards.

As is Aaron Carver, who plays PF for us.

Good to hear. I was told he was seriously about 6'2", but that was hearsay. I've not seen him in person.

Me, too. Anyone go to the Tip Off Dinner? Due to my back surgery I could not go this year. It is one of the best events that ODU puts on (except the food is mediocre at best!). I really wanted to go since there are so many new faces on the team this year. To make things even worse, the usual attendees that would give me a play by play couldn't go last night either.

RE: 2017 basketball
The increase from $35 to $50 per person priced me out of the dinner. I like going, but sometimes you have to draw a line.

How do you get an invite? Do I need to give more to ODAF?

Season ticket holders, are invited to an open practice, Fri 10/7 at the Ted.

Coaches seem very upbeat about the season. The players really put in the work during the off season and the chemistry looks great. Green keeps improving. The coaches really like the play of transfer Justin Kithcart in practice. They say he has another gear and moves the ball at a quick pace. Can help this year, but think we'll be glad to have him for three years. Should help during the practice and later on the scout team.
