RE: Never Forget
I was on duty. The shift we were relieving had been out on a fire and started breakfast late so we got a late start on checking apparatus. The station phone rang and I answered it. It was one of our guys who was at home recovering from knee surgery. He told us a plane had hit one of the WTC Towers so we went in the day room to see what the news had. We were about to go back to checking apparatus when the second plane hit. We knew then we were at war. None of us slept that night watching the coverage and hearing the haunting sounds of our brother's PASS alarms going off in the rubble.

When they lifted the flight ban I was in a trench rescue recertification class. The location it was held was in an old sand pit in a flight line. When the first plane flew over everybody stopped what they were doing and just watched as it flew over.
