I did NOT see that coming! What a great WIN today against CMU with Suglio's pin being the spark. The losses to Buffalo, EMU and even Old Dominion make NO sense now. lol I guess results like today's match are why you wrestle and don't determine outcomes by rankings.

All those years we were right with CMU but couldn’t beat them and now one of our so so teams clinches the win after only 8 matches. Along with Suglio the two OT wins were big.

Exactly! I’ll take it, even if CMU had 2 starters out.

The regular season is over and we finished better than last year. Let’s see how we do at the MAC tournament.

RE: Wrestling 2017-2018
I was listening to the CMU vs KSU match and heard Matt Miller say that Bardezbain struggled with making weight @ 125lbs after Christmas, which is why they burnt the redshirt on Jake Ferri and Suglio has taken the opportunity @ HWT & run with it after Devin Nye was injured.

Should be an interesting MAC Tournament for KSU with 2 weeks off and a lot of guys peaking at the end of the regular season. Ferri, Monico, Barriero, & McCracken will all get good experience at the tournament. Tutolo, Sparkman, & Conel should qualify for NCAA Tournament and Rooney, Bast, & Suglio have a chance, but it depends on which version of them shows up. The MAC Tournament is @ CMU.

Here is the link to the updated statistics for this years team: http://kentstatesports.com/documents/201...=wrestling

Nick Henneman has had a great redshirt year @ 141lbs going 21-4 with 10 pins and Kody Komara went 12-3 in his redshirt year @ 149lbs.

Will Bardezbain @125lbs, Chance Driscoll @ 141lbs, & Stephen Suglio 197lbs/HWT are all 5th year seniors, so those are the 3 that Andrassy/staff lose off of this years team.

A ton of juniors/redshirt juniors, so hopefully Andrassy/staff are hitting on impact recruits (specifically 157lbs, 165lbs, & 197lbs) in this years class and have hit with Komara, Hinkson, and 1 of the HWT's in last years class. Tutolo, Sparkman, Bast, Conel, & Nye are all seniors/redshirt seniors next year.

Here is the link to the 4 recruits that signed with KSU in the early signing period: http://kentstatesports.com/news/2017/11/...=wrestling

1 @ 133/141lbs, 1 @ 165lbs, 1 @ 184lbs, & 1 @ 197lbs

3 of the recruits are from Ohio and the state tournament this year is March 8-10, so it will be interesting to see if any or all win state championships in their weight classes.
Link to Ohio State Tournament: http://ohsaa.org/Sports-Tournaments/Wres...t-Coverage

The other recruit is from PA and the state tournament this year is March 8-10, so it will be interesting to see if Tim Wallace wins a state championship @ 182lbs.

Wallace and Day are ranked #15 in their respective weight classes.

Decent finish to the season but still no one ranked in the top 20. I wonder when that happened last (not counting last year where I think Tutolo was top 20?).

Bardezbain probably always had trouble making weight. When your 6’6” it’s hard to stay at 125. It’s too bad because I think the NIU wrestler was 6’7”. That would have been an interesting match. I’m exaggerating but they were two of the tallest 125’s I’ve ever seen.

RE: Wrestling 2017-2018
MAC official from Cleveland was on radio promoting the NCAA Wrestling Championships. He said there were 5 sessions (I believe there are 6, but I’ll give him that one). He said the best teams in the MAC are Missouri, Central Michigan and OHIO(!!!). I suppose he wanted to hype a local team and must have forgot Kent is closer to Cleveland and actually had beaten Ohio. The funny thing is that the hosts of the show Jeff Phelps and Andy Baskins are both proud Kent State graduates. Of well.

We’re also missing a stud like Kilgore or Miller.

Old Dominion had one of the tallest lineups I’ve ever seen. I think they had us on height in 9 of the matches.

RE: Wrestling 2017-2018
Wrestling team is doing pretty well. Currently in fourth (of eight) and has Sparkman wrestling for a championship and 5 guys going for 3rd. Looks like two to four NCAA qualifiers. Sparkman and Tutolo are in (if my website on how many qualify is right). Three need to win their 3rd place match to get in. Also if Conel can finish third he would have a good chance to get a wild card. EMU is a very close third just behind CMU which to me is very surprising. Of course Missouri will win the tournament.

RE: Wrestling 2017-2018
We finished a solid 4th. Tutolo, Sparkman and Suglio qualified for the NCAA’s. Conel finished 3rd in a weight class that only qualified two which gives him a shot at a wild card. Hopefully his reputation from 2016 might help get him in. They were 4-3 in their matches today which was a solid performance. The team definitely improved from early in the year. There is hope for next year!!

Eastern led Central with the two schools wrestling in the heavyweight championship match. The winner would take 2nd place in the tournament. CMU won it and took second. Nice finish for them in front of the home crowd.

Conel finished 2nd by beating EMU in a true 2nd place match. He's headed to Cleveland as well!

Great. I forgot they did that at the MAC.

Just saw the NCAA brackets and I notice there are only 32 per weight class. Did they get some common sense and eliminate #33? Also Conel is not in the 197 bracket. There is an ominous looking TBD. Do you know if he got hurt and had to pull out? That would be tough after he wrestled so well last week.

Found Conel he is in the play in match as there are still 33 wrestlers per bracket. The bracket that I saw did not show that and instead had TBD to represent the winner of that match. Don’t know why it was cut off on my screen but Conel is alive and well.

I know its off topic. But I am tracking the OHSAA State Tournament and pulling for Brecksville. They are within striking distance of Saint Edward in Division One.
