Not true, My son Randall Royall tied with Smalls for most votes as true freshman. He is on that council

They have always had younger guys on the leadership council to provide representation from all classes.

I remember watching film on Glaesmann in hi school in Waco. He was a helluva playmaker - either with his arm or with his feet. Really really good. Frankly I was very surprised Baylor didn't go after him with a full court press.

Encouraging. I've heard good things too. I'm ready to see what Beschomer can do with him.

Sam Glaesmann Named Starting QB, Granato Granted Release

Good move by Bailiff if you think about it. Freshman excuse if Glaesman doesn't perform well. Can sell the wait til next year phrase. If he performs well, he may save his job. Smart political move yet he's putting his job in the hands of a freshman unless he's gone no matter what.

If they win 6 Bailiff would save his job. Maybe even 5. Maybe even 4. JK doesnt want to deal with this pile o (you know what) program at this juncture. If there is *any* opportunity to kick the can down the road it will be taken.
It would be fine to limp along as crippled as we are in FB to be able to direct resources and effort to BB and baseball. He has the Graham issue to deal with as well. JK has a real problem trying to kick the can down the road with a 2 win or 3 win season.
And these comments shouldnt be taken as a slam. The Division 1 sports thing is really kind of in a triage here.

Sam Glaesmann Named Starting QB, Granato Granted Release
I realize many are disappointed with recent performance, including me. However it would be nice to find a few posts with positive angles or upside potential.
I'm not foolhardy or head in the sand. I just think more "balanced reporting" from the fans as well as from the media would make for more interesting conversations and ultimately better insight. Thanks.

"Balanced" implies realistic, as in truth being in the middle, right?

I've been down on Bailiff for years and years. But every fall, even though I don't necessarily want it to, at least a glimmer of hope springs forth in the back of my mind. I'm hopeful that the DC, S, and QB coaching changes, in particular, help, since those are areas that haven't exactly excelled the past few seasons. I like that Rice is moving away from the 4-2-5 (as implemented) and really like the move to the 3-4. These are changes a bunch of us who are fed up with Bailiff have been hoping to see for years and years.
But all the hope has to be at least somewhat balanced by the realities of most seasons under Bailiff, as well as the fact that we haven't seen anything of the new systems and players yet. Otherwise, without that negative balance to my hope, my Rice football soul becomes to open to abuse and crushing disappointment.

RE: Sam Glaesmann Named Starting QB, Granato Granted Release
I'm excited because we're 0-0, but also because sometimes there's a fine line between 4-8 and 8-4 or 7-5 in our conference. A bowl game is not enough for many fans here, but I was pleased we made 3 straight bowl games and feel a return is possible this year.
Some reasons for optimism (in no order):
1. New QB - the QB question has been the biggest concern and at least now we have some hope with a QB who has won the starting job as a redshirt freshmen, who appears to have the play-making abilities we've missed since at least Driphus' junior season.
2. Defense. Ellerbee is an absolute beast leading a pretty good front 7 under a brand new 3-4 scheme with a new DC, and we have the personnel for the hybrid LB/DE positions of the 3-4 with guys like Womac and Schantz. The timing seems right for a big improvement from the defense, finally.
3. Personnel on offense - the WR group isn't heralded but Granson has potential to be a major star player for us, Cephus is getting some hype as well. Can Stewart and Walter stay healthy and live up to their potential at RB? If so, we have some good weapons at the skill positions, plus decent depth behind them, and an experienced O-line that shows promise, all to provide Glaesmann a more than adequate supporting cast if he's ready to take over.
4. Special Teams - Fox appears to be a good player. When I saw Bailiff pick him as one of two players to be involved in the initial press conference in Australia, it caught my attention (or is it just that the Punter position is a star position down under?). I was pleasantly surprised to find out he was named preaseason All C-USA first team by Athlon (2nd team by Steele). Could he also kick?
5. Coaching - we'll have to wait and see, but there's reason to be hopeful with the new DC and new QB coach, at least.

I hate to say it, but my first thought was he's likely to see more field time than most of our offense.
I hope he doesn't have to get off the bench (and not due to turnovers), but I suspect we'll see plenty of Mr. Fox Saturday night.

Not sure what time zone you're in, but game time is Sat., 8/26 at 9:00 pm CST at my house (midday Sun. in Sydney).
