ODU run out of money or something? A very regional non conf. schedule...
ODU has always had a regional-heavy schedule since moving to CUSA, with a bunch of games against former CAA teams — VCU, Richmond and William & Mary every season, JMU, Towson, George Mason and Georgia State mixed in as well — and a few MEAC teams as tomato cans. It saves a bit of money but it's also a way to appease fans upset that they lost the regional games from the CAA days, plus they draw pretty well (particularly the Virginia schools).
What it is, is not a particularly strong OOC (VCU had coach/player turnover, Richmond is down, and the Charleston Classic is largely made up with teams about as good as ODU). Short of a 27-win season and competitive loss to a top-2 CUSA team in the final, no shot at an at-large bid at all.

So no mirrored scheduling ? If so -- that is great news
No mirrored scheduling. It is an attempt to strengthen conf rpi. Gives the lower programs a chance to schedule 2 winnable games and the upper programs two rpi building games.

You are allowed 4 hours a week with the team over the summer now (starting this year, surprised you didn't know that), 2 hours on the court. Dan has taken one hour two times a week to use as practice. The returning players have been dismissed for the summer and its only newcomers on the court right now. The full team will return together in the middle of Aug. Two of Marshall's international players are home right now in Milan Mijovic and Ajdin Penava.
As I said all returners have been dismissed but Elmore has stayed and goes to every practice still. All of the other returners are still on campus and in summer school. And they are all in the Henderson Center at least 3-4 time a week practicing on their own.

I actually like that schedule a lot. No real RPI killers besides UMES.
That @Fairfield game is an interesting one, as I grew up going to a lot of Fairfield games. They should be pretty decent this year.

So Tech doesn't play @ Rice. That's no bueno, by far the most attended away game with 300-400 Tech alumni. We need to have those games every year for Alumni

From the Rice side, Louisiana Tech does show big, but UTEP and UTSA bring even larger visiting crowds to Rice. And now we traded Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech for UTEP and UTSA. Wish we could somehow play everyone from the football West home and home.
And Rice swaps Old Dominion/Charlotte home and home for the Florida twins. I guess this is ok for Pera's first year. With two games each against FIU, FAU, UTSA, and North Texas, Rice might even surprise some people and get to .500 this year.

UTEP I can believe but UTSA.... Their away crowds must be more than their home games, I went to a Tech-UTSA game in SA and there was 500 fans there tops. Hardly no support at all for UTSA basketball

Probably a lot of the UTSA alums who like basketball move to Houston after graduation. It's a stronger basketball town after all.

RE: CUSA Men's Conference Schedules
I have a little more detail on how the womens schedule will be made up. The league has studied other leagues scheduling and have adopted the model that the A10 uses. The A10 gets 2 teams in the ncaa on a regular basis.
The league will be divided into 3 pods. 2 pods of 5 teams and one of 4. The make up of the pods is based on rpi from the previous year and considering what the team has returning. The pods will change from year to year.
Unless something changes one pod will be southern miss, La tech, Middle tenn, western ky and Charlotte. In this pod usm and tech would be travel partners as they have been and will play twice. Each team will play 2 of the other teams in the pod twice and everyone else in the league once.
Teams in the top pod are also expected to schedule 2 top 50 rpi teams from the previous year. That will be a total of 16 league games and will start at least a week later than the men start conf play.
The women's league schedule has not been finalized yet. Southern miss will release its ooc portion this week. Its expected we play excuse me miss, miss state, tulane and Ga Tech ooc.

They're probably testing it with the women's teams first to see how it goes. If it's successful I could easily see it be adopted by the men's teams as well.

The wildcard here is expecting the team to schedule two top 50 teams. What if they do not do that? Will there be consequences? Would a pre-season tournament where there is a possibility of playing a top team suffice? I am all for playing the top 50 teams, and doing what is required to ensure schools do, but realistically isn't that sometimes beyond the control of a school? Other than that, this type of relegation format is exciting.
