McGee found out and got the hell out of dodge (and good riddance.) Brian could have sounded the alarm, he didn't have to make himself a martyr, even an off the record and under the radar warning to the right people would have helped, and yet said nothing.
But in a strange twist of fate, Brian not sounding the alarm is why we have UAB football today. If it became known that football was going to be canceled, Clark would never have taken the job. I firmly believe that without Bill Clark, UAB football would be dead for good.

And what would that have done for his career?

Key words were off the record and under the radar. No one had to know he was the one spilling the beans. Hell, McGee found out and he's a retard, so it's not like only Brian and the axis of evil on the BoT knew.
The irony of Brian Mackin's tenure in the athletic department at UAB is that he was only hired as associate AD in charge of development because he promised that he could use daddies connections to get big money people donating to UAB football, something he accomplished in the end only by being complicit in the termination of UAB football. So maybe he was playing 4D chess while the rest of us were playing checkers.

I was as mad as anyone with Mackin, but I have mellowed. He was in a horrible situation, and it would not surprise me in the least he knew something about some of the document leaks at a very inopportune time for Ray and the BoT.
I agree that Brian has been quite visible in his continued support of UAB athletics since his demise as AD as I have seen him at several games in the past couple of years.

Mackin had nothing to do with any document leak. He was not an ally in any way shape or form. He knew what they were going to do and did what he was told to assist the process.
I can understand his rational. Considering the state we live in and the people behind shutting down the three programs if I were in his position I would have thought saving them impossible.
People at UAB risked their jobs to help the return. To give Mackin credit for their actions is a disservice to those employees who risked a hell of a lot more than he did because they love the university and were willing to stand up for what is right instead of taking cash to go along with what is wrong.

Red Bill Clark: [narrating, referring to the warden committing suicide return of UAB Football] I'd like to think that the last thing that went through his PBJ's head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Andy Dufresne Brian Mackin ever got the best of him.

Brian did some things that frustrated me. With that stated I'd take him in a millisecond over Ingram. I think he will be a positive voice for us. Maybe he can even change the conference name to CUAB for our La Tech friends ?
