I'm sure playing at Bristol was a fun novelty. Not sure it made great TV.

Game was the PrimeTime game on ABC Saturday. Best ratings for Week 2.

Loads of cross-conference matchups delivered exceptional TV ratings:

USC-Alabama = 7.9M viewers
Army-Navy = 7.9M viewers
LSU-Wisconsin = 7.8M viewers
Florida-FSU = 6.4M viewers
VA Tech-Tennessee = 5.8M viewers
Oklahoma-Ohio St. = 5.8M viewers
Oklahoma-Houston = 5.7M viewers
Notre Dame-USC = 5.7M viewers

Compare to:
Wisconsin-Michigan (ABC) = 6.8M viewers
Alabama-Tennessee (CBS) = 6.5M viewers
Ohio St.-Penn St. (ABC) = 6.4M viewers
Florida-Tennessee (CBS) = 5.5M viewers
Clemson-FSU (ABC) = 5.3M viewers
Oklahoma-Oklahoma St. (FOX) = 4.8M viewers
USC-Washington (FOX) = 4.3M viewers

Depends on how you define good TV.

It certainly was noticeable something different was taking place because of the lighting and distance to stands. From a critical standpoint it wasn't great tv but I watched for the novelty.

Actually part of it is Notre Dame making an effort to cure the damage done to Arkansas when Michigan backed out on them and cited ND as the reason.

That deed is on the Skunkbears, not ND.

That's what I said or at least meant to say - I see how how the wording could be unclear. Your doing something for Arkansas, not because you have to, but because it's the right thing given what UM did - by the way well played on costing UM $2,000,000 and waiting a year to pencil in the games with Arkansas. That's a nice touch and well deserved for UM.

When Purdue got messed up a couple of years ago and lost a game with you, VT agreed to plug that hole with a return trip from Purdue about five years later. Of course that was a little complicated and involved the ACC office - something that UM would never stoop to allow. 04-cheers

It's funny that some people keep asking when ND will join a conference when they have already joined the ACC. ND's only deviation is playing three fewer games a year against conference schools in football. Since the conference selects ND's ACC games and ND has to work with the conference to schedule and calendar 8 to 9 games a season it's a little silly to keep asking "when are they joining a conference".

The three extra games a season are the difference between what makes ND special versus any other top program. If the conference squeezes ND on that, it only hurts ND's value, and thereby hurts the conference. Unless the ACC added Navy, USC, Stanford, and Purdue/or Michigan State, there is no way to structure the season in way that squeezes out more value.

Yeah, we are the ones who get the short end for quasi independence. But we won't budge.

RE: ND/Arkansas announce home/home series (2020/2025)
Until and unless ND starts to replace football games with USC, Stanford, Navy, Michigan State, Purdue, Texas, Arkansas, and Georgia with games featuring MAC, Sun Belt, or CUSA schools it's not in ND's or the ACC's financial interest to substitute ND and Navy with ND/Wake Forest, or ND and Stanford for ND/UVa. Their prime value to the ACC is as a network hook in states that otherwise would only watch BTN - the bait on the hook is better with the three national games, unless and until Navy, USC, Stanford or Michigan State join the ACC. ;

I was meaning the viewership, so the facts don't lie.

There's nothing wrong with a Texas Florida St game, I just think fanbases care more about teams they know.

Surprised Notre Dame is playing in the state of Arkansas, but thrilled this is a series.

Nebraska-Kentucky sounds like it would be a stunt to keep people subscribed to the Big 10 and SEC Networks, especially if there were a basketball series involved.. Or perhaps CBS could arrange a home/home football series just to be able to show a Nebraska football game.

Notre Dame has also never had a game against Auburn. That would be a great series if they could ever get that arranged.

Other opponents that I would love to see the Irish eventually schedule home/homes with: Alabama, Florida, Nebraska, Oregon, Wisconsin. They have not had a regular season game with any of these programs in a very long time.

Southern recruiting, the same reason that ND is happy to play five ACC schools a year and play Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, etc...

ND has made a great effort the past seven years or so to play more often in the South.

How many players from Arkansas have been on the Irish football roster in the past 5 years?? Not even starters, just on the roster. Guessing few

There have been a few.

Point being, ND wants to recruit better in the south. It is scheduling more games there the past few years for that purpose in mind.

Minnesota has two star running backs from Georgia. Don't recall if it has played a regular season game in the state in the last couple decades, but I don't think it has. None coming up either. It does have a game at Mississippi St in 2027.

I just don't buy the thought process that one gains any noticeable recruiting advantage with a player because of the chance to play at an opposing team's stadium that is within a few hours drive of his hometown. YMMV

The Big Ten and SEC have so many bowls where they play each other, Neb and Ky are bound to meet in a bowl one of these years
