RE: 2017-18 Schedule
It's my understanding that the schedule has been completed with a home game against Ga Southern.

All SoCon schools but ETSU have announced their schedules. It appears that our first three conference games are on the road. Mercer, Samford, & UTC

RE: 2017-18 Schedule
No exhibition to start the season. I hope that is in the works to be added considering all the new players we have. Pretty tough to start on the road for 3 straight. If there's no exhibition we'll be waiting until nearly Thanksgiving to get a home game. I'm not going to look up RPI but that seems like a pretty weak OOC overall, Xavier and UK being obvious exceptions. Maybe Georgia Southern is better than they used to be. Huge start to conference play with tough Mercer and Samford on the road followed by the cakewalk in Chattanooga. Nice to get the last 3 at home. Should be a great opportunity to seal the deal if we're in the hunt for the regular season.

Good points.

It would also be nice if there were some possibility for fans to watch an open practice to get a sense of things. I certainly can't wait to see how this new group shapes up.

The value of an exhibition seems clear for a team this new.

As to strength of OOC - could it be that the word about Forbes and ETSU has made folks wary of taking on a very tough match?

If the OOC is not the strongest, the SoCon is likely to be very tough, with strong teams UNCG and Furman returning most players, and senior laden Mercer and Samford likely to step up.

RE: 2017-18 Schedule
Coach Forbes just said on the radio that they were doing 2 scrimmages against Division 1 teams instead of exhibitions because he feels that the team gets more out of a scrimmage than a exhibition that he should win by 40 points.

Fair point. Just don't schedule Tusculum as a regular season game then.

RE: 2017-18 Schedule
Don't like having to play non-conference NKU twice, and Tusculum as a regular season game. But it is what it is. As long as the team is successful, it will be more difficult to schedule quality out of conference games. Even more so for home games.

I think NKU is projected to win the Horizon, if that's the case then playing them twice should help our OOC. If I remember correctly Troy and Fort Wayne had decent teams last year too.

Interesting, coach knows best I suppose. As a fan though I selfishly want that exhibition to start the season. I also selfishly want some OOC road games that are easy for fans to get to. We'll probably try getting to Rupp but nothing else looks easy or particularly interesting. It's a really hard job to put these schedules together. All these other teams want wins just as much as we do. At this point it just seems like reality that we will play two D2 home games every year.

More than hard...Teams simply refuse to play us and we can't pay tens of thousands for teams to visit us. Given these hefty constraints, I am relieved the schedule is now posted.

While I get the implications of scheduling (e.g., strength of schedule, distance to away games), in the final analysis, I just don't care. I am just pumped that the season quickly approaches.

RE: 2017-18 Schedule
After a little research

Troy 22-15 last year, returns top 2 and 4 of top 5 scorers.

Ga Southern 18-15 last year and return their top 6 scorers.

Fort Wayne 20-13 returns 3 of top 4 top scorers on a high scoring team/

No Kentucky 24-11 return top 2 and 3 of top 5 scorers

All of these non conference games will be tough.

Kentucky and Xavier on road? Enough said.

Deleware State, Detroit, Fordham and Savannah St should be very winnable.

Hiwassee and Tusculum cannon fodder.

Disappointed to see former foe Northern KY on the schedule and an away game at that. Had hoped we had put the A-Sun in the rearview mirror.

Northern Ky is a member of the Horizon League. They left the Asun in 2015.

RE: 2017-18 Schedule
Northern Kentucky won the Horizon Conference last year and played Kentucky in first 1st round of NCAA, losing 79-70.

They play in beautiful new 9,000 seat arena.

They have come long way since their A-Sun days.

Yeah, Northern kentucky is a pretty legit foe. Not a pushover by any means whatsoever.

They used the Asun to transition, nothing more. I like this game.

Lucky for you we play them twice and the second game is at home!

PS I am happy about this somehow.

Thanks! I don't follow anything/any news related to the nightmare of the ASun.
