RE: ODU will open 2018 Football at Liberty
Beyond the expected and anticipated disdain, it is a short drive to Lynchburg. LU did play a strong game against ODU as a FCS member. And as one who also detest part of LU's off field antics and positions, but as a LU sports fan, I am very much looking forward to this game. And congrats to ODU for making this happen. And, it is possible to be a fan of a team even when politics, antics, social positions and more are disagreeable. It's not easy at times but it is possible.

Of course we are getting paid, are you all serious?
Just that nobody had made any such comments and you were the first to bring it up and how you detest it. Found it ironic but I struggle with the definition.
But yeah I'll have to keep a closer eye on this thread. I don't like to micro mod, we're all mostly adults.
Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.
What do you mean any such comments? Please explain. The thread was started by someone who apparently hates playing Liberty because they don't like their religious views. I just don't understand why that particular thread wouldn't be in the off topic forum.
If you hate playing Liberty because you think they are terrible or a step down in scheduling that is one thing, but that isn't how this thread started.

FWIT, seems ok to keep the thread here as long as the dialogue does include some discussion about the game and not solely about bashing LU.

Many have complained on here over the past few years about how there were so few away games within easy driving distance over the course of the season due primarily to the vast separation of teams within CUSA. Well, here is an away game against a D1 opponent that is a short drive from Norfolk.
Also, ODU should not have any excuses about losing the game against this Liberty team that will be in the early stages of transitioning from D2 to D1. If we want to be conference champions like past Marshall teams or last seasons WKU team then games like this should be easy wins.
Are we that high enough that we now call FCS D2? Lol

I don't care if we schedule liberty. But no H/H? That's embarrassing.

One thing is for sure ... when an individual with an opposing view (Bernie Sanders) came there to speak recently he was treated with manners, respect, and class which is a far cry from what is typically seen at colleges and universities these days. We could use a whole lot more of that in today's society instead of either rioting to keep them off campus, or constantly shouting them down to keep their message from being heard.

It was a swap with UVA/Liberty. We pulled the same thing a few years back. I'm sure the money UVA was going to give us, and now Liberty gets, will pass through to us.

Lynchburg is further than Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Greenville, Charlottesville and about the same as College Park.
Also D2 =/= FCS.

Don't care. Selig set a precedent early on during our transition claiming we didn't do buy games. Now, we are essentially giving Liberty one. It would be different if it was Bama and they were paying us 2 mil. But liberty?

Sorry, my mistake. Meant to say FCS to FBS transition. Had typical basketball transitions D2 to D1 on mind since my mindset is usually skewed towards basketball (ODUBBALL). Thanks.

Our UVA game moved back a year. As published, the change is a 2018 1-off game at LU for a 2019 home game vs. Buffalo. (was part of a Home and Home)

Being a Lynchburg native and currently residing in FL, I watched on CBSN Trump's commencement this morning as word was that was when LU's schedule was going to be announced. First, I was surprised that it was Trump who made the announcement with some facts/data about LU FB. It was obvious the speech was crafted by someone else, and that LU had requested him to make the FBS announcement. I am one who nearly heaves when Trump speaks as I am an avid non supporter of him. And I did listen to his speech and it was good and favorable and well executed, meaning that Trump did stay on script and read his teleprompter. Such is the journey of a LU fan who does not follow or belong to the flock but enjoys collegiate athletics. One upside for ODU fans who detest LU is that this game will generate lots of enthusiasm. That's better than playing a FCS team with little game interest or implication.

So if we're giving up an FCS home game for a Liberty road game, does that mean we only have 5 home games for 2018?

If you don't agree with a group's social or political positions, how can you possibly justify giving a group a single dollar to help fund the promotion of those positions? If someone did that, they would be donating to a group in direct contrast to their own beliefs.

Lynchburg is closer than Charlotte, Boone, Blacksburg, Harrisonburg, or Conway. Any way you slice it, it is still a reasonable drive for anyone that wanted to attend.
