If we were to get a 5th-year senior FBS transfer it might give us that flexibility. As of right now, we need him playing. He has P5 caliber tools and showed tremendous improvement this past fall.

Offensive linemen have been an issue and will be getting a ton fo focus when spring drills start next week. We now have some extra scholarships to pass around and hopefully we will land some transfer help. In the past, Coach Gill has been reluctant to accept FBS transfers. He has taken in only a handful. But I suspect the sudden surge in scholarships will give him more flexibility.

I agree with this assessment for the most part. Calvert was a 3 star if I remember correctly and he started as a true freshman. He has great potential and I have no worries about him being FBS material. He just needs to realize his potential.

I also agree about needing offensive linemen. FBS schools generally have more depth due to the extra scholarships instead of more talent and that is most evident in the trenches. It is a pity that Liberty has been rather poor at OL lately. With our great facilities and strength training program, we really fall short in the Big South.

ODU as a FB opponent would be tremendous for LU. And several posters have endorsed a LU/ODU match up. The obvious game day travel ease is definately an appeal for both fans.

FBS here we come!
I would love to have a regular series with ODU. Went to a game there once. Wasn't a fan of their stadium, but was a fan of their growing program, and their great location.

Would love the schedule to look like
2019 ODU
2020 Va. Tech
2021 ODU
2022 UVa
Then keep repeating

RE: FBS here we come!
I remember ODU's AD stating that he would like to schedule Liberty if we ever became an FBS program. This could become a decent rivalry if we work out a long term scheduling agreement.

I would like to see ODU every season. I like your VA Tech, UVA rotation but any close by ACC games will work.

Virginia rivalry weekend could be, UVA -vs- Tech and ODU -vs- Liberty.

Also hoping we can play Army, Air Force and Navy as often as possible. I'm sure ODU will get Navy to Norfolk once they get their new stadium. That would be a great game (tough ticket).

For that matter they could get Army (Ft. Eustis & Lee) and Air Force (Langley AFB) there as well.

Wonder if they could pull off a triple header over a weekend in Norfolk and invite all of the academies to play VA schools hosted by ODU?

Not a bad idea but it would have to be in DC. Foreman Field wouldn't cut it.

But that takes away from hosting it in the heart of those bases. But agreed, as is, the ODU stadium falls WAY short. Besides renovation they would need to more than double the capacity.

Honestly y'all should look for a neutral site in DC with ODU and split revenue.

I suspect we will start having "home" games in DC with P5 schools in the near future.

I'd rather do it in Baltimore. It isn't much further and M&T Bank Stadium is so much nicer than Fed Ex Field.

I'm watching closely and expect some official statement to be made of the expansion of Williams Stadium. If the expansion was equal to or greater than 35,000 that would be larger than all SBC stadiums except one. Found a link listing all stadium capacity at http://www.collegegridirons.com/comparisons.htm. Here is their report on the SBC, C-USA and Independents:

Aggie Memorial Stadium New Mexico State Sun Belt 30,343 1978

Just a thought but why don't you guys sell the naming rights to your football stadium. Like Duck Dynasty Williams Stadium. Or something like that.
