RE: Raiders to Las Vegas--it's official.
The NFL made it clear they don't want third-party developers like Fortress involved. Only plans acceptable to the NFL are: Team builds and finances stadium, or local gov't builds stadium and gifts it to NFL team, or some combination of the two. So it's no surprise that Fortress was not at the NFL meeting.

And Oakland isn't going to give the Raiders $700 million for a new stadium, and the Coliseum site isn't available unless the A's find a new ballpark site elsewhere in Oakland, because the A's have 8 years remaining on their Coliseum lease.

Looks like the A's are going to win their game of chicken with the Raiders and get the Coliseum site to themselves. I don't see enough money materializing for a brand-new ballpark, though, so I will stick with my longstanding prediction that, after the Raiders leave, the A's will do an extensive remodel to turn the Coliseum into a baseball-only park, as Disney did with Anaheim Stadium when they owned the Angels.

Las Vegas Raiders - Los Angeles Chargers will be the only (reasonably) drivable game in either NFL West division.

Cheers!

Oakland hasn't done a thing. The mayor made a pitch today but their deal hasn't changed and the Ronnie Lott group (that was theoretically going to pull all that money out of the sky) didn't even show up for the pitch. Sounds like it's dead in the water. Only question left: Can Davis get the votes for Vegas?

Oh ok...wow. Didn't realize their proposal to stay was so flimsy. Lott no showed? SMH

Cheers!

This thread title is about to come true. NFL owners to vote on Raiders relocation on Monday or Tuesday. Sounds like it will pass easily.

Owners are also going to make it easy for the Raiders by making the relocation fee only $325M to $375M, which is only half of what the Rams and Chargers have to pay to relocate.

Next the Raiders will need to decide where they will play from 2017 to 2019 since the new stadium in Vegas won't be ready until 2020.

What are the odds Davis pulls the rug out from under Vegas? Non-trivial, right?

Raiders to Las Vegas goes official

[blank] Never thought I would see them leave the "Los Angeles area" but....

IMO, during my lifetime, this is about as shocking as

Colts bolting from Baltimore.

Browns moving to Baltimore to become the Ravens.

Oilers moving to become the the Titans.

At least as far as NFL teams go.

Stephen Ross (Dolphins owner) spoke about giving the communities a chance to keep their teams, seeing as how they mean so much (That's the very brief version). As a Dolphins fan, this is probably the proudest I've ever been to be a fan of them, other than them miraculously making the Playoffs this past season. Kind of sad when you think about it.

Now, aside from "The Stadium Game" politics of Pro Sports, hadn't Oakland (and for that matter San Diego ) been trying for a long time to get new facilities built in their respective market?

Other than the Cowboys and Yankees, I don't think there is a better logo than the Raiders. I think Vegas and the Raiders is a match made in Heav-- er Sin City!

The NHL is gonna flop in Vegas imo but the perfect sport for Vegas is the NBA. Boy, if the Lakers ever moved out there, they'd be a big hit with all of those LA transplants.

Yeah, the Vegas NHL franchise is the biggest loser in the Raiders move.

Las Vegas isn't a wealthy market - drive a mile away from the Strip, and you might as well be in San Bernardino or Barstow. Ticket sales and premium seating sales for both pro franchises will be heavily dependent on the casinos, and do the casinos need both franchises enough to pay top dollar to entertain at both venues? A major concert or fight or MMA event is going to be much more popular with the casinos and their whales than ice hockey.

Vegas support isn't that wealthy but it's okay. The luck for them is that the NFL is a weekend sport with 8-12 home dates a year, so they could get support from other places.

NFL is so popular that you could put a team in 100 different places and make it work, especially if the franchise gets the financial head start the Raiders are getting with public money for a stadium.

NHL is several orders of magnitude lower in popularity in the USA, especially in the south and west.

Roger Goodell is saying what I've already said on here: the NFL does want the Oakland market, but Oakland has got to play by the NFL rules. Vegas played by the rules, Oakland didn't. I think after the A's get their ballpark, I believe that Ronnie Lott and the City of Oakland might be able to land the Jaguars, and kill this NFL to London foolishness!!!

What Oakland market? If they lose Oakland not only will Southern portions of the Raiders fanbase activate but many casual Raider fans in the Bay Area will just become 9er fans.

I said casual fans, don't overreact.
