We are hearing more and more news about huge interest in our HC position. We are in uncharted territory and I think KB may (& should) move cautiously. Here's why. We have so much interest in our HC position that we aren't even considering some high quality coaches like Annese, Mitchell...and yes - Les Miles. We've already ruled out Wheatley who is one of the top recruiters in the country.
I firmly believe that KB is just getting started with the interviews. Lester and MacPherson won't be the hire. It's likely that there are a handful of candidates KB wants to interview that we aren't even aware of at this time. Those guys may not get interviewed until later next week.
The only way this happens quickly is if KB thinks Cristobal or Pinkham are a perfect match and she makes an offer this weekend. I don't think it's happening.
And I'm not worried about making this happen fast. Remember that this team still has incredible upper class leadership that is keeping the players together. The 2017 recruiting class is already shot. Anyone thinking we need to hire someone tomorrow to miraculously save the current class is drinking too much Hopslam. The players that are still verbally committed will either stay because they are sold on WMU or they'll sign elsewhere if they'd don't like the hire. A hasty hire doesn't change that.
So let's relax, keep communicating about what's going on, and for heaven's sake...there is NO reason to rush this. Go Broncos!

I'm not sold on Mario's Crystal Ball. A good argument that he's not as bad as his very poor W-L record as a HC indicates, which I agree with, but there's no argument he's a great catch at the G5 level. He'd be a risk/gamble in doing so.
Pinkham -- what if PJ didn't take him and left him, with KB & PJ basically having a passing, unofficial agreement that he'll get RTB without much hassle if he doesn't take Everyone, and leaves us with Pinkham to work with? Just pure speculation. I don't think anything close to official would be Like that, but who knows -- maybe unofficial nudge of "cooperation" if he wasn't hellbent on Pinkham or something. Dunno.
But I agree not to rush to get a HC. I don't think there's any call for that. I think it's more like "Why are you not hiring the FCS HCs? Why not X? Why Y? Why acting like you have all day?" I think it's general impatience, but yeah, we don't know the scoop and have to give KB the benefit of the doubt. I don't necessarily think she'll get The best one, no. After all, she wanted Lester and not PJ. Given that, I DO want her to take her time and to think it through carefully, to ensure it'll be the best decision she can make!

Somewhat agree. But you can't write off the 2017 recruiting class altogether. And the chance of flipping some recruits to WMU after a hire decreases with every passing day.

If Kathy has any kind of an updated Short List, I agree with you. Even with the departure of Fleck being the surprise it was, she should be ready to respond. Certainly by the end of next week we should be down to 1-2 inside trackers.

The sense I'm getting is the 'Bama assistant's interview today is the final interview; decision to be made over the weekend with salary negotiations; presser to introduce new coach Monday or Tuesday.

If that under the radar hire is lester, macphearson, or pinkham I am not going to be too happy.
Looks like these are the only three options...
That we are aware of. I am sure that KB has quite a few more names on the board. Just because we haven't heard the media spew out that an interview occurred doesn't mean that one didn't. I am sure that her list is likely somewhere around 7-10 coaches at this point. She probably started with 15 or so names.
The thing about Lester that has me perplexed, is that if KB has history with him, and understands what he brings to the table, then why hasn't she just picked him already? Something there that KB must not see as a good thing going forward for our program at this point. I also think that Lester is just doing his due diligence as a candidate for any job openings in his field. Lester might not even be on her "short" list. That's not to say that she hasn't shopped him to some of the other candidates as OC material going forward... along with Pinkham for stability.
Should be interesting to see what happens going into next week.

This is a good point if she was going to hire him you would think she would have already, same with pinkham. At least I hope you are right.
