This may be the worst tournament we have ever participated in. Not trying to be a debbie downer, but I take nothing from this win except we can beat high school quality teams.

Agree on the crap field. However, I'm a member at Barrington so while not crazy difficult and its wet (so easy to shoot at pins) that is still a Nicklaus design and one of top 4-10 courses in northeast ohio so IMO our scores are darn impressive

Broke the school record for 54 holes by 9 strokes.

Ian Holt and Chase Johnson became the first two KSU golfers to ever break 200 for 54 holes.

This team has matured rapidly this season. Very, very impressive this fall season.

The men tee of shortly down in Falls in the last event of the fall, I believe.

Royal Oaks Intercollegiate

The team really struggled as the day ended. At one point they were 10-under and only 5 back of leader/host Baylor on their last nine. They are still in second place, but at -3, 13 shots back of Baylor.

43 days until the KSU Men's Golf team tees it up to start the spring season.

Looking forward to a strong spring from those 6 players with another MAC Championship Trophy coming to Kent OH.

Men's golf playing in Louisiana this week. Toledo also there.

Great first round : -7, 2nd place behind LSU. Toledo is in 9th place at +8.

8-under in round two, the only team who shot under par in the second round and have built a 6-shot lead going into the final round tomorrow.

Ian Holt shot a 65 in round two and leads all individuals.

The men are lapping the field and will pick up a big tourney win today. They are 4-under on the day and are the only team under par at all today and have opened up a 12-shot lead on LSU on the final 9.

Now this is impressive

Overall not a strong field but #3,#13 and #14 were in the field and #22 Kent beat all three of them handily. Nice impressive start to the season.

The third round of the Hackler Tournament was canceled due to weather so we ended up second to Wake Forest. Good job again.

The men are in Wilmington NC this weekend and after 36 holes today, lead the field by 36 shots. Tomorrow's round will basically be a victory lap. In last place, by the way, is Akron, 61 strokes behind. Not a typo.

This will go down as a win, but I think the field in this tournament is basically craptastic.

Quote:WILMINGTON, N.C. – The No. 11 Kent State men's golf team won its second tournament of the spring, taking the title at the Seahawk Invitational Monday at the par 72 Country Club of Landfall.

The Golden Flashes finished 7-under par at 857 (291-281-285). The team's third-round score was by far the best in the field, growing the team's margin of victory to 47 strokes. Second-place Army came in at 40-over par. The mark broke the tournament record that has been held since 2012 by East Carolina.

"To shoot seven under was phenomenal," said head coach Herb Page. "Everybody played well, especially during a brutal day yesterday. They were playing through wind, which was a mental test that we passed with flying colors. We were very smart and played very tough. We are on a roll here."

The tournament was highlighted by the first career win for senior Josh Whalen. Playing by far the best golf of his career, Whalen closed the tournament with a 70 in round three to finish at 9-under par 857. He entered Monday's final round after posting scores of 71 and 66 to start the tournament. Whelan's score is a personal best for three rounds and broke the individual tournament record. His average score this season of 71.25 will continue to fall with these scores.

"His 66 was as good as you could ever be," said Page. "This is the third individual win for us, and with Whelan being a senior it was an emotional victory. I'm very proud of Josh. Then look at Gisli, this is his third straight top 10 finish. The guys are playing really, really well. It's fun watching them."

Sophomore Gisli Sveinbergsson finished second at 5-under par 211. He finished his final round with a score of 72 to earn the best finish of his career. He was two strokes away from the previous tournament record and was four strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Also in the top-10 was fellow sophomore Bjarki Petursson. He tied for ninth overall with a 4-over par score of 220. He shot a 74 Monday to finish the tournament.

All five golfers in the lineup finished in the top-15, with juniors Ian Holt and Chase Johnson each finishing in a tie for 14th at 8-over par 224. Holt had his best round of the tournament Monday with a 71, while Johnson finished with an even-par 72. Competing as an individual, Spencer Dobbs tied for 34th at 15-over par 231. He registered an 83 in round three.

The Flashes will return to the course on April 1 in the Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M in Bryant, Texas.

It might have been a week field but setting a course record still makes it a good week. I doubt it's been a weak field every year.

No doubt about the quality of this week's field down in Texas.
