RE: SMU trying to impress the Big XII, get an invite. Maybe the Pac 12 should Act instead
PAC 12 should try and add Houston and Rice and go to 14

Why would you double up in Houston?
If you are going to double up in Texas (and assuming Big 12 teams are off the table) then Houston and SMU would be the two.

SMU is on the outside looking in when it comes to the P5.
I don't see them leaving the AAC for a long time, unless Big 12 expansion hits the AAC so hard that SMU is willing to pay the $10 million exit fee to jump west to the MWC (not likely), or a diminished AAC ends up merging with the MWC (even less likely, as much as I'd like to see it).

SMU is fine where they are...a division of privates along with Navy

ya, I would try and increase the market penetration of Houston as much as possible...
There's no one in Texas that could really deliver the type of market the PAC 12 is looking for ....SMU isn't going to deliver Dallas
TCU would be a good add, but I doubt they'd come
Rice would fit from an academic standpoint. Houston is the more notable school though...
The PAC 12 really has very few options....Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Houston, Rice....they are stuck.

SMU has P5 aspirations, evidenced by the recent $150M commitment to facilities along with coach salaries for Chad Morris and formerly June Jones and Larry Brown in basketball. Heck our asst bb coach (now HC) Tim Jankovich was the highest paid assistant coach in the entire NCAA.
Now whether that translates to an actual P5 invitation, who knows. We need to win football games and consistently sell out our stadium. But SMU is not complacent. I think we have seen what schools like TCU and Baylor have done, and know that with the proper resources we can do the same.
I think we are angling to the eventual larger split in 8-10 years, not necessarily the B12 right now.
