Correct. Starting on a Tuesday night to celebrate the beginning of the CBB season is a better idea. Far less going on Tuesday night in the sports world (just after the World Series has ended) than a Friday night and weekend that includes HS FB, CFB, NFL, etc.

2nd (or perhaps 3rd) games will still be scheduled for that weekend of course, but opening on Tuesday/Wednesday night(s) makes a lot more sense.

Absolutely. That whole week littered with CBB will make a great transition from end of baseball to the winter sports season. Even more money for the blue bloods.

The Oakland University head coach Greg Kampe just tweeted that Jmu will be among 4 teams in an early season tournament that Oakland is hosting around Thanksgiving. Oakland, Jmu, Northern Illinois, and Oral Roberts. 3 games in 3 days.

Great catch, my friend. Well done. I'll be on the lookout for this.

That is a solid mid-major tournament for JMU to be a part of.

FWIW, last year's records for the other 3 teams at the Oakland U. get-together...

ORU: 8-20 overall, 5-9 Summit, #256 RPI

Northern Illinois: 11-19 overall, 6-12 MAC, #236 RPI

Hopefully be a good momentum/confidence builder early in the season....and experience playing away from home.

Oakland graduates a lot including the conference player of the year but they have historically been a quality mid major under Kampe. Hopefully the other teams are better than last year.

That is an amazing deal in getting Carolina to come to Wilmington and the Stanford deal as well.

Coaching connections- kudos to Stanford (Haase is the ex roommate of UNCW's coach) and Roy Williams (who the UNCW coach was an assistant for for a number of years) for doing this to help him out. Nice home slate in 2018-19 for Cacok's Senior season. Would like to see Coach Rowe work some connections- a few ideas: Nevada- I believe Rowe played for Musselman at one time either overseas or on the Miami Heat's summer league team, Missouri- Rowe played against Cuonzo Martin (when JMU played Purdue in the 1990s) but maybe Martin wouldn't want to take another L at the Convo. Oklahoma- I believe Rowe left Florida on good terms when he transferred from Lon Kruger to Lefty.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
May be a long shot based on JMU already being in an early season tournament but the ESPN tournament that was formerly in Puerto Rico and moved to Myrtle Beach is happening again. I think that is one where App State got involved last year. They have 7 announced team with an 8th team to follow.

Cal State Fullerton, St. Josephs, UCF, Valpo, Wake Forest, WVU, and Western Kentucky. It's 11/15, 11/16 and 11/18 so it could feasibly work in conjunction with the other tournament. Coach Rowe mentioned in that recent interview with ESPN Harrisonburg that a couple of ongoing schedule series had ended prematurely and they were looking to fill them. Maybe a team like Richmond who had really struggled of late backed out of our series (pure speculation on my part). Whatever the case this is a good field and maybe JMU can work some ESPN connections to get added as the 8th team. We would travel well to Myrtle Beach as well. Let's put some pressure on coaches and leadership to get our hat thrown in the ring here.

Good tourney, but you can’t say JMU would travel well to Myrtle beach. As it stands now, JMU doesn’t travel well to the convo.

How about Florida coming to Harrisonburg in a return game from last year with Rowe pulling the strings of his former school?
Florida didn’t like the outcome so much in their first and only visit to the convo.
1990 JMU 93 Florida 66. Curb stomping.

As it turns out you can't participate in 2 multiple team early season tournaments in the same season so since JMU is in the Oakland tournament the rest of their schedule will need to be individual games. Too bad.

I don't think Rowe has any connect to Florida- he transferred from there and that was when Kruger was the coach.
