Nope. My point is that other CAA teams are stepping up the plate (aka challenging opponents), while JMU is not.
How challenging were Towsons and UDels opponents on Dec 3, Dec 9, Dec 16 and Jan 7?
Yup, I think I will stick with the current philosophy that seems to lend itself a tad more to the big picture (winning titles and home playoff games). When you are going to get 4-5 ranked opponents over the course of the season combined with a FBS game not sure you really need to go overboard with OOC scheduling. There are no NEC or Pioneer league teams on the schedule this year. Have been replaced with SoCon and MEAC teams. Seems like an uptick to me with regards to conferences.
Also.....please remember whether it be NEC/Pioneer/SoCon/MEAC/Patriot/BigSouth these schools get a playoff bid.....you never know when you make the contract but you could be scheduling the conference champ and playoff team.

Towson is upgrading the schedule too. Sept 28, 2018 Citadel at Home and 29 or 31 August 2019 at Citadel. Plus the one BCS game each year.

I gotta remember this thread in case anyone ever asks me again how large playoffs take away from the regular season. #makeFcsPlayoffs16TeamsAgain

RE: Future FB Schedule (currently 2017-2019)
Knowing how strong our team is, how many of those teams (Citadel, NDSU, or other top teams) would want to schedule a home-and-home with us? We even tried to get one with NDSU and they said no.
Or look at it from the opposite side: Do you think Citadel fans are excited about playing Elon or Towson? Are NDSU fans booking trips to Newark? Or did NDSU and Citadel agree to these games because they are against opponents who don't suck too much? (They are certainly better than Pioneer opponents.)

With 2 road OOC games in 2018 (and perhaps the same in 2019), might we attempt to go with a 12-game schedule in either or both years? That is, to get 6 home games in (read: $$$).
(if this has already been discussed in this thread, my apologies)

You can only play 12 games in certain designated seasons. It depends on the number of weekends between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. I will look up the rule and post it. I do believe '19 is one of those seasons, I'll look that up as well.

RE: Future FB Schedule (currently 2017-2019)
Per http://www.ncaapublications.com/productd...s/D118.pdf
In championship subdivision football, a member institution shall limit its total regular-season
playing schedule with outside competition during the permissible football playing season in any one year to 11
contests (games or scrimmages), except as provided for member institutions located in Alaska and Hawaii, under
Bylaw 17.28.2, and except as provided for all members under Bylaw 17.10.5.2. Twelve football contests shall be
permissible during those years in which there are 14 Saturdays from the first permissible playing date through
the last playing date in November (e.g., 2019, 2024, 2025). (Revised: 1/12/99 effective 8/1/02, 8/5/99 effective
8/1/02, 4/28/05 effective 8/1/06, 12/15/06)

RE: Future FB Schedule (currently 2017-2019)
For the next decade 12 game seasons are permitted in 2019, 2024, 2025 unless there is a rule change in the future.
Unrelated, but just discovered, we (FCS teams) are now permitted to have 105 on the team at the start of camp, previously only 95 for FCS but FBS teams have always had 105.

Thanks for the info. With Week Zero (a week before Labor Day weekend) open now to D1AA teams to play televised games, I wonder if that "extends" the permissible playing weeks by 1 to provide an additional window. We'll see...

It is sort of odd that JB didn't make our trip to NSU in 2019 rather than 2018. I'm trying to be nice.

Though this doesn't address specifically your question, I am almost certain those who play in a TV game prior to Labor Day weekend (beginning on the Thursday before Labor Day) simply means they will have two off weekends rather than only one.
17.10.3.2 Exception—Nationally Televised Contest—Championship Subdivision. [FCS] In championship
subdivision football, an institution may participate in a nationally televised (broadcast or cable; not
Internet only) contest against a nonconference opponent during the weekend (Saturday-Sunday) before the
Thursday preceding Labor Day. Participation in such a contest is limited to one institution per conference per
year. An institution that participates in such a contest for two consecutive years may not participate in such a
contest in the following year. (Adopted: 4/28/16 effective 8/1/16)

RE: Future FB Schedule (currently 2017-2019)
Weekend before Labor Day weekend:
8/23/14 SHSU @ EWU
8/29/15 NDSU @ Montana
8/27/16 CSU @ NDSU (could have been JMU @ NDSU)
8/26/17 UTC @ JSU
8/27/17 RU @ SHSU
I think all but CSU @ NDSU were previously scheduled OOC Sept games between year prior playoff teams that ESPN picked up to move to the weekend before Labor Day weekend.

That works just fine. Was hoping for something new, but hopefully by then they will be on much-warranted significant probation. Kenan Stadium is easy to the eyes, but terrible on the knees. Whoever designed that stadium was a masochist.
