Bingo!
Tell him what he's won, Johnny!
Actually it didn't. We lost our coach and tanked the rest of the season
Just ignore the fact that it vaulted us into the Top 25 and the national networks were talking Memphis football for many weeks.
You're right. It got us a trip to luxurious Birmimgham
the jewel of the south.

I bet it helped/will help us land at least one or two recruits.
Probably the catalyst for that Big 12 invite in June
Or is it July now?
With all this good inside info it's hard to decipher.
I'm still waiting on the Thad Boyle press conference

You are lying to yourself if you really don't see the appeal of putting NAME teams on the schedule. Everyone gets a little more excited on gameday when it's one of the SEC haves that are in town.

Other circumstances led to the weak finish, losing Fuente, and the Birmingham Bowl.
I mean, I guess we could have replaced the OM game last year with a home win against Arkansas State and that would have been better for us?

Maybe if we lose to Ole Miss. VT waits until the end of the season before they strike, Fuente keeps his focus and we end up in the Peach Bowl. $$$$$

Interesting hypothesis, I suppose.
Still, give me OM, Miss. State, UTK, etc. games, as opposed to Arky State, MTSU, etc. But, perhaps I'm in the minority.

I never said we shouldn't play them. Just said it doesn't matter if we win. Just don't play them in the opener. We get curb stomped and then the fans stop coming

You're both right
The opener should be a buy game. Get that first win it sets up the rest of the season. Memphis is an event town not a sports town. Need name teams to draw fans and that's why the Tigers need to be in a P5 conference do that then the attendance will rocket up.

Anyone saying that beating Ole Miss last year didn't help the team's reputation is not being honest. It helped immensely. After the win, Memphis was vaulted into the national spotlight with articles and talking points about whether we could be in the running for the Playoff.
Is that the case every year? No, but last year it was.

It didn't help us get a better bowl game. It's all about money now. Rankings don't matter unless you are the best non P5 team.
We weren't

We were still in the discussion even after a couple of losses. There's no way we would've been if we hadn't beaten Ole Miss.

But Houston was in a better bowl. How did that happen because they aren't in a P5 conference either but they were ranked 8th. So rankings do matter.

They beat us and won the conference. That game and Navy mattered more than ole miss.
Now go run off to Atlanta with your buddy Josh

I am not going to Atlanta any time soon. I just renewed my BB and FB season tickets. I hope to see you at the games. Maybe you are not such a smart A-- in person.
