Monmouth will be in the First Four in Dayton. They won't be able to resist that platform with Monmouth's entertaining style and bench.

I don't know...I mean, Valpo and Monmouth didn't even lose in the championship game of their tourney. They lost in the semi-finals. I think that hurts them. Losing in the final game in a tight one is one thing. Losing in the semi finals is another.

RE: SOT: Is Monmouth a lock regardless of if they win or lose?
Monmouth and Iona were playing in the MAAC Championship game tonight. That wasn't the semis.
Monmouth only played ONE home game in out of conference play. They won at UCLA, Georgetown, and Rutgers. Yeah, those teams weren't good this year, but those were brand name wins to start the year. They also did pick up high quality wins down in Orlando when they beat Notre Dame and USC.
Monmouth has a decent resume. The bubble definitely got smaller tonight.

RE: SOT: Is Monmouth a lock regardless of if they win or lose?
my bad on Monmouth
but they had three putrid losses
not good for a mid major from a crap conference
and beating Gtown (this year) and Rutgers (any year) means zero

Beating a B1G team any year is a good win for a mid-major

"Rutgers" and "brand name" should NEVER be used together if you want others to take your post seriously.

Being Rutgers means about as much as our win over Minnesota.

This helps Tulsa's RPI seeing we beat Iona.
I dont think Monmouth has a chance. This will drop them in the 50s.

Iona had an rpi around 80 so they won't drop a ton. 7 losses with a #171 isn't going to cut it thoughm

13 road wins matters.
Beating a UCLA team on the road to open the season matters. You know who lost to UCLA this year? Kentucky. Oregon. Oregon State. Arizona. Colorado. Gonzaga. That's a quality win.
Beating Georgetown in DC is a good win. The Hoyas faded but started strong. They beat Wisconsin, Syracuse, and Xavier this year. The X have an outside shot at a one seed.
Monmouth has a legit shot.

Legit shot...yes. lock = no. Can't have a sos of #170, rpi of 50, and 7 losses in a really bad league and be a lock.

I would say they are so we need to be rooting for them to win.
I haven't read the whole thread yet and someone probably already said this but obviously at this point, wins over UCLA and Georgetown don't carry the weight it looked like. Monmouth is in...the NIT. It's sad because there's literally no team that can dance the way Monmouth can.

If they make it that far, the loser of the Houston and Tulsa game is out. And with the way things are going elsewhere and given how much they had to overcome already, Houston has to win the AAC unless the committee does them a huge favor.

But Monmouth was only looked upon as an easy game, just a step above a MEAC team, so they were scheduled for an easy win by some teams and it backfired. ECU has that repuation to a much smaller degree but not quite the same and besides any coach paying any attention knows that it's surprisingly tough to win at Minges.

If you give them credit for beating Georgetown or Rutgers then you have to give a team like Houston credit for beating LSU. This isn't a pat on the back, good for you moment, the question is if they are one of the best teams. I think teams like Wichita and Monmouth are among the best teams but what they've earned on the court has to speak to that and because of that, I have trouble seeing them in the field over a UConn or Cincinnati. They had their shot and were bested more than once and when it mattered by teams in their league.

They won't get in the field over UConn or Cincy. They will get in the field of Gonzaga, Oregon State, Michigan, etc Those are the true bubble teams.

rooting for Ohio to win the MAC. Two conference champs would help our case.

RE: SOT: Is Monmouth a lock regardless of if they win or lose?
They should be in imho. They'd a really good team. Same with Valpo. What sucks for mid majors like this is that their conference RPI can really hamper them. Kind of like how the bottom half of the AAC is hurting the top half.
