Good read on SI's Campus Rush: "With Steady Hand and Core Values, Mark Dantonio brought Stability, Consistency to Michigan State."
Or how to bring order and success out of chaos.
Blueprint for building a CFB program with staying power.
Guy is most underrated great coach I can remember.

Looks to me like he reaffirmed for all doubters just how good of a coach he is in all aspects.
Also, anyone think he might have spent extra time around his defense this last week?

Dantonio made a believer out of me a few years ago. I thought MSU might have made a mistake when he was hired, but boy was I wrong. Best thing to happen to MSU since the Izzo hire (or Duffy in football).

RE: Dantonio
Furthermore he's done it talent that the folks in A2 thought was beneath them. But the last two years he's recruited at a level over and above UM and OSU. For all of those with goo goo eyes over Harbaugh's future, there are kids waiting in the wings at MSU who will step in nicely.
As much as Fleck annoys me the table is set for him to get it done next year. East schedule should ease up for us and Central and NIU should get Bugs. No excuses, no process, time to put up or shut up.

Dantonio is a perfect exampe of where great coaching leads to good recruiting. Whole game. Driver to the putter.

MSU is blessed with two of the best coaches in the nation Dantonio/Izzo. Both seem to do more with less consistently. I'm sure you all have seen this article by now but it is a cool story about their friendship. http://espn.go.com/ncf/story/_/id/141620...o-tom-izzo

True, but Harbaugh bringing UM back to a (consistently) winning program will only take from MSU's pot of recruits. UM has that 'brand', when they're doing well, that will make up for MSU being just as good (or even slightly better most of the time). With that said though, when you're talking about two high-level recruiting teams, in the end, it's not going to matter all that much as they're just 17-18 year olds they're swiping and (most) not yet developed.

That's what I was saying about 2016 at the end of last year. 2016 is "our year" where we (Fleck) will be truly judged. This year we were supposed to take some licks in losses with MSU, Ohio State, @GA-Southern, and NIU+Toledo on the road, while having to play the Top 2 East Div teams (BGSU + Ohio).
Next year, it's NW + Illinois instead of MSU + Ohio State... GA-Southern at home, not away... NIU+Toledo at home, not away, and very possibly not BGSU.

The downside being, do we celebrate a good year set up by a less than stellar schedule? Should we want to say, bring on BG, don't avoid them? Well, folks did not want to make allowances for a strong schedule right? So I guess we should accept a 10 win year that is the result of a favorable schedule.
As in, if you are going to say the only thing that matters is the result, are good results against weaker opponent just as good a result? If a loss against a tough opponent is bad, is a win against a weaker opponent good?

It's not an Easy schedule -- it's just not a WTF-OMG schedule. :) It's not like we're replacing MSU & OSU with Idaho & New Mexico, and GA-Southern with Georgia State! :)
It makes the Illinois & NW games winnable (but probable losses), and the GA-Southern game more winnable at home, as well as Toledo/NIU more winnable being in our house at our peak. The schedule itself isn't going to be Easy, but it puts the wind at our back.
Quote:Should we want to say, bring on BG, don't avoid them?
I say "We'll play BG in the MACC, so there is no avoiding them in the end." If we were vying for a PLAYOFF spot -- this year's schedule would be it, and we'd need every bit of hardness. For a great record and a MACC game? A non-easy / non-super-difficult schedule is sweet.
Quote:So I guess we should accept a 10 win year that is the result of a favorable schedule.
Mainly by home vs away (NIU, Toledo, GA-Southern) -- yes. It does add 1 degree of difficulty as having CMU away, but Pooper's not going to be there next year so that helps soften the blow.
Again, I'm not saying "I want the easiest schedule!" We're not getting that. We're playing 2 P5 teams + a power G5 team OOC + we're in the West which is going to be hard, but the two other toughest teams At Home. It's just not ridiculously hard like this year's -- PLUS we'll be at our peak. THAT is what I'm looking forward to, and That is going to be the true test to the PJ Coaching Crew to see where they can/will bring us.
