How do you use a player that has picked up his second foul less than a minute in the game? You might want to send your answer to Bill self, because he couldn't figure it out either.
I can't speak for Self but Pastner's matador style defensive strategy on the perimeter contributed mightily to Tarik's having to play help defense all the time.
As a reference, see Shaq.
It's not the style, it's the player discipline. When it happens predictably over and over again spanning multiple years, coaches, and schools, it comes down to player discipline. The NBA allows him to to skirt some of that. It's too bad, because he really had potential to put up big offensive numbers.

Because Nichols is a better help defender with better footwork and anticipation. He's almost forced into that role. Watch the next game. The lane will be open all the time on the defensive end because Pastner has his bigs face guarding their man 20 ft from the hoop. There will be penetration and the bigs will be forced to fill the lane with a certain degree of panic. They will leave their man and their guy will be wide open close to the basket. It's a horrible defensive strategy.
If we play a zone the weak side will be wide open every time with zero rotation because Pastner can't coach a zone either. They will hit a 3 from the weak side and we will drop back into a man and the process starts again.

As far as I'm concerned he left the team and his teammates and so to me, I could care less. He is not a Tiger.

I totally agree as do many close to program. Possibly cost us some tourney wins last year as we were very thin in frontcourt.

The fact is TB is being paid to play in the National Basketball Association.
This alone plus so many other factors prove that Pastner is not HC material.
As a coach you NEVER NEVER let an NBA player come close to thinking about transferring....Especially when the kid is a GOOD kid.
TB did not do anything wrong. He didn't t get in trouble. His coach called him unmotivated and unwilling to give what it takes to be successful.
JP was/is so stubborn that he let an NBA prospect walk from the program.
The question I propose to Josh P is WHY was TB unmotivated under your leadership? Why didn't you manage TB better and ensure he was giving max effort for the TEAM
Why did you let Antonio Barton walk from this program? His brother could possibly make $100s of millions and now University of Memphis would not see a penny based on stupid JP decisions.
Boy Scouts don't win the Cross Fit Games. Only the fittest and passionate people will survive in the next few decades
Who besides DJ Stephen has ever stepped up to back JP? The only person DJ should trust is to give this contract personally.
He is however, prez material....you may want to do something about that screen name

Are you talking about WSU game? Austin fronted his man almost entire game which was baffling to me ; Austin is awful in fronting his man but he gets a lot of blocks from behind because of it.

He did what was best for him and it worked. Frankly, I'm shocked that he's in the NBA. I never saw the offensive game that others saw in him. He can't shoot outside 5 feet and has 0 face up game, which is usually a necessity for a guy his size in the NBA. You can get away with it at 6'11" or 7'0", but not usually at 6'8".
Regardless, he's clearly worked his ass off to get where he is. In many respects, he got a raw deal here. When Pastner forced him to make the apology in a presser, it was all over. The situation could have been handled with a press release or with a general "internal matter ... now resolved". Instead, JP basically forced Tarik to pants himself in front of everybody. I would have gotten the hell out of Dodge too.
According to the NBA Tarik IS 6-11...
congrats to him, I wish him the best and thank him for his time here.
