RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
Sad game. Sad schedule. We almost lost of Malone. We should've dominated start-to-finish. Like last year, we scheduled weak teams, played to their level the first half, then woke up. This year the teams are weaker and we are doing the same thing.

Lots goes into winning one college basketball, let alone 16, let alone 20+. With that in mind, I will just figure that KSU's practice time has been focused on the upcoming weekend, not (Moses) Malone College. Time will tell.

Malone is a very sound, patient team but it still shouldn't have been that tough. Especially since it was our second game. It will be interesting this weekend.

Malone sound? They've lost to Cleveland State, Indianapolis, and Lewis by 21,21, and 29 respectively. They are not a good basketball team and we shouldn't have been in the position we were in tonight. I'm worried because I watched a lot of bad basketball tonight.

Didn't look at their record I just thought they played pretty well last night. Now I really feel nervous.

That's good. Last year we only had 1 double-double, with Darren Goodson against Central Michigan with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

My kids are all anticipating seeing Blake Vedder play - I'm trying to tell them watch Jimmy Hall Jr. - he's the exciting one. http://csnbbs.com/images/smilies/01-ncaabbs.gif

I'm sorry, but I'm not taking it as lightly now. Last year, in this tournament, we played weak teams that went down to the wire. We are doing that again.
Last year we barely made the MAC-T. I doubt we will even get in this year. I know it's hard to base that off of the first 2 games. However, I'm looking at this same thing for the second year.
The team has gotten worse under Sendy. It's been progressive over the years. Now we have a schedule that should guarantee a soft 20 wins, which will give the coaches contract extensions. Not worth the cost of admission. I might start following the gymnastics team.

Gymnastics? I think this team will be fine. A lot of new parts that need to gel. I said earlier that hall and Spicer will be the best in the MAC. While optimistic they will still be near the top. Btw, akrons schedule is easier than ours this year

RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
We all need to R-E-L-A-X, our guards will not shoot 4-25 the rest of the year and that comes after shooting over 50% against YSU. new players getting worked into system, we will be fine. yes it was an ugly display against a team that we all thought we should blow out, but it did not happen and we scratched out a win.

I was watching some of the holiday tourneys on TV today and the commentators were talking about how early in the year the offenses tend to struggle There was some serious bricklaying going on today by a lot of teams.

As far as the schedule goes. not sure what everyone expects. We are playing our $$ game at Kansas and the rest of the schedule is mid and low majors. No major conference teams are coming to the MACC to play so we get what we can to balance out the schedule.

Hope to see everyone this weekend 3 days of hoops yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget there are two games each day. Five PM on Friday/Saturday and I believe 1PM on Sunday.

RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
I've been to all 3 games and while I don't think our competition has been any good, I do think we have significantly upgraded the depth this year. we are a solid 10 deep and in an absolute pinch I think they could maybe go to 11 with Davis too.

So when we have our cold nights from certain people or we have our knucklehead nights from certain guys Sendy has options unlike previous years.

It always looks good when you win but this group appears to really like each other and seems happy with each others success, which hasn't always been the case in the last few years.

Kellon Thomas out for a while. Fractured Orbital Bone in practice yesterday from an inadvertent elbow.

Not good for the Flashes. The only true PG on the roster means shuffling the rotation/lineup.

RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
Dannyb73/Anyone Else,

A few questions thus far:
*Is Marvin Jones redshirting this season? (I would assume so since he hasn't played 1 minute thus far, but wasn't sure if it was to let him improve/separate from Spicer/Ortiz or if he suffered an injury during preseason camp/practice?)
*Do you see Akbar or Brown giving Senderoff/staff more this year? They seem to be clones of each other size wise/production, but I haven't been able to see all of the 7 games, so wasn't sure if 1 is better on defense or offense?
*Any way Davis or Lawrence redshirts this year or next year? (I just don't see it being productive to have an 11 man rotation this season)

Through 7 games, here are the individual stats:
Jimmy Hall - 27.7 minutes/game, .564% from the field, 50% from FT line, 14.6 pts/game, & 7.3 rebounds/game
Kris Brewer - 27.9 minutes/game, .397% from the field, .400% from 3pt, .750% from FT line, 11.4 pts/game, & 3.1 assists/game
Derek Jackson - 31.7 minutes/game, .500% from the field, .500% from 3pt, .813% from FT line, 11.1 pts/game, & 3.4 assists/game
Devereaux Manley - 27 minutes/game, .453% from the field, .476% from 3pt, .667 from FT line, 10.3 pts/game, & 1 assist/game
Kellon Thomas - 19.2 minutes/game, .286% from the field, .167% from 3pt, .737% from FT line, 6pts/game, & 1.5 assists/game
Chris Ortiz - 14.7 minutes/game, .364% from the field, .400% from 3pt, .462% from FT line, 3.7 pts/game, & 2.3 rebounds/game
Khaliq Spicer - 19.6 minutes/game, .500% from the field, .538% from FT line, 3.6pts/game, & 5.9 rebounds/game
Gary Akhbar - 9 minutes/game, .294% from the field, .438% from FT line, 2.4pts/game, & 1.9 rebounds/game
Craig Brown - 16 minutes/game, .217% from the field, .200% from FT line, 2.3pts/game, & 3.3 rebounds/game
Marquiez Lawrence - 11.2 minutes/game, .429% from the field, 1.4pts/game, & 1.8 rebounds/game

My observations after looking at those stats:
*Khaliq Spicer isn't even averaging a block per game, yet the goal of the coaching staff was for him to finish in the top 10.
*Derek Jackson is outplaying Kris Brewer thus far.
*Jimmy Hall is as good as advertised, but that 50% through 7 games @ the FT line has got to be better.
*Akbar/Brown are both under 30% from the field.

Here are the MAC Standings through 12/08/14:

School MAC Record Overall Record Streak

Bowling Green 0-0 5-1 W1
Akron 0-0 6-2 W3
Kent State 0-0 5-2 W1
Buffalo 0-0 5-2 W1

Miami 0-0 2-6 L5

West Division
Eastern Michigan 0-0 7-1 L1
Central Michigan 0-0 6-1 W1
Western Michigan 0-0 5-3 L1
Northern Illinois 0-0 3-2 L1
Ball State 0-0 3-3 W1

RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
It was said that Jones is redshirting.
Several thoughts:
When Kris Brewer came as a freshman, I thought that we had a junior and senior year all MAC guard. I am concerned that he did not develop to what some thought was his potential. He is just a good, serviceable guard of MAC level.
Spicer is a big concern of mine because of his physical statue and Rob's reputation of developing big men. Spicer has displayed a complete lack of touch around the basket and very limited vision. Hall needs a mate in which the 2 man post game can be developed. It is a big limitation when Hall receives the ball and immediately gets 2 1/2 to 3 collapsing on him. He can not develop his dishing game if there is no motion and positioning of another down low player. That should be Spicer, but he does not seem to have the instinct nor chemistry with Hall.
Hope these issues get resolved. We could be very good if it happens.

I wish Brewer would have never been forced into point guard duty. In some ways it reminds me of Randal Holt.

KB's skill set is best served off the ball, in my opinion. Minus Kellon Thomas, the Flashes have not had a true point guard on the roster in some time. As many minutes as KB has seen at point guard....its a shame.

I agree. Our point guards haven't really been playing like point guards. They bring the ball up and it starts getting passed around the perimeter. After that, no one is in charge and you just have 3 shooting guards out there. We haven't had an effective point guard since Porrini. No one has the responsibility to get the ball inside.

Hasn't this been our offense for the better part of a decade?
