RE: Boise State settles with AAC for $2.3 million
I think the costs will be more than just this little bit of money.
The AAC may expand bye taking some MWC schools.
Boise may have burned bridges and get left behind.
The MWC paying to keep is good short term but not good for the conference.
The T.V. deal being uneven makes a raid on the MWC easier.
Without naming the obvious teams losing three or four teams would really hurt the conference. The easiest way for the AAC to distance itself from the rest of the G5 is raid the MWC.
The same way the ACC and Big Twelve are considered lesser leagues because they can be poached. The losses the MWC incurred so far were clear steps up and help In a way. A lateral move is seen as a move up .

I don't think the AAC has anywhere near the advantages to lure MWC teams away. In fact, they are the most vulnerable conference. If an eastern P5 conference expands, it will most likely pull from the AAC. Boise State has learned, sadly, that the conference you sign up for is not necessarily the conference that you get.
The only possible way for the AAC to raid the MWC is if BYU is included in a package deal. I highly doubt the Cougars will be joining a G5 conference; their whole foray into independence was done to separate themselves from the unwashed masses of non-AQ schools. And if the intent is for BYU to attract "the best of the rest" to challenge for a P5 designation, Boise State would obviously be included in that group.

He is an Idaho fan who really wants a spot to open in the MWC for Idaho and thus is really hoping.
Should the AAC, the MWC, or anyone else for that matter, ever want a best of the rest they will have to drop some of their current members, otherwise it will lower the per team payout to expand with what is left in the G5 and that makes no sense at all to do.

That's nothing more than opinion. The MW has lost TCU, BYU, and Utah--thier best teams. During that same period--they added lesser teams--expanding from 9 to 12 mouths to feed and increased the payout per team. It can be done with the right additions. The idea that adding to the AAC automatically causes a decline in per team earnings is not necessarily true.

Sure but AAC expansion adding possible MWC schools has been discussed here.New Mexico would be an obvious choice .
Depends how desperately the AAC wants to be seen as a tweener conference. The scenarios change with how many teams . The years until an expansion occur . Boise State could continue to dominate or become average in the meantime.

I am sure appearance is important but nobody will lower their revenue to add a pretty face and that is what expansion would do without dropping someone.
btw. Boise state has never won an outright MWC championship in Football. They did manage to tie for it one year.
