"Rehashing" a blast from the past: The Blazers stole our Yin!
The original thread is here
Apologies for bumping up this post, but I wanted to check in with y'all to see what your feelings are about McGee, now that we've had 1 2/3 season under his belt.
I know the overall record is not what anyone wants nor expected, but I still want to know what everyone thinks. :)

RE: "Rehashing" a blast from the past: The Blazers stole our Yin!
I think there's still a general sense of hope and belief in McGee, although I think there's a lot of cause for worry. Offensively, we seem to be fine, although there's definitely room for improvement.
Defensively, McGee has put his faith in some assistant coaches that haven't gotten it done yet. I wonder if McGee will stick with those guys or look for a new defensive staff.
Either way, we don't lose many players this year, so expectations for next year are high. If McGee doesn't turn it around in 2014, then I think the fan base will completely turn on him.

Expectations for next year are high? Based on what? Do we have a QB that I'm unaware of? Will our defense improve from what it is over the course of a season?
To be perfectly honest, I don't believe this program is a bit better than it was the day McGee took over. I'm not saying he can't get there, but he sure as hell isn't close yet.

Based on the fact that McGee will have a veteran team and will be in his third year, people will expect a long-overdue bowl game. If there is no improvement, the fan base will turn on him.
What is the problem with that assessment?
You may feel differently, but I am stating what I think the UAB fan base thinks about McGee.

There are empty parking lots where the on campus stadium belongs.

Because I'm so weary of you posting stuff like this, I'm going to finally give in and support the effort for the on campus stadium...oh WAIT, I already support it! And SO DO ALL THE POSTERS ON THIS FORUM!!!
So who are you trying to convince!?

People expected the same thing this year. Hell, we had fans saying we were a 9 or 10 win team this season, and we'd have no trouble competing with Vandy. Now, we are sitting at 2-6 with little sign of life. Our fan base turned on our starting QB in favor of a backup senior QB who will do nothing for us in the future. I'd be shocked if AB came back, and I don't blame him.
I'll sit here and watch the same stupid predictions next preseason, and when you wonder why I don't think we'll win more than 5 games, I'll direct you to this thread.

I dont remember many posts where people turned on the AB. When it comes to the QB situation, the 2 names that are mentioned most are McGee and Perry. I dont think fans dislike AB, but rather when you are losing more than you are winning, it is natural to want the backup. Point out the AB bashing posts, and I will stand corrected.

How many games did we lose because of AB? People like to point to the QB because it's an easy spot to point at, but we could have Tom Brady out there and would still be losing because our defense is beyond awful.

And I would like to point out that I have no ties to AB, nor do I think he's an outstanding QB, but until things changed he was our future. Now, we are back to where we started with our QB situation.

The problems we have are at least a three year fix.

And I'd be fine with this if he didn't come out and say what he did when he arrived here.

You don't come here and say there's more talent then you expected and you expect to win and win right away and then expect your fan base to be unhappy when you suck. He could have said plenty of other things to the media(tell the players whatever the hell you want) that wouldn't irritate us as fans. That isn't coachspeak, because every coach in America doesn't say that when the take over the train wreck UAB was.

I think I can have the program righted in 22 months.
#1. Frame Jameis Winston with something.
#2. Pay off law enforcement officer to bust him with whatever he has been framed with.
#3. Pay off judge to tell him he has to move back home for 3 years of probation, but he can play football locally, in Jefferson County.
#4. Convince McGee the kid needs another chance, and he will come to UAB as long as McGee doesnt try to coach him.
