Right, so that's why I don't see them as part of an Alliance.

CinciKid was saying that those teams were not going to be in the "Alliance".

Aha, I misread.

Yes, Memphis and UCF are gone from the Alliance to the Big east...San Diego State b-ball program is going to the West Coach league...that's what I was saying in my post...these good hoops programs are all gone from the Alliance (if they form it).

RE: C-USA has contacted Temple.
I know NOTHING about basketball especially college but...

I took CUSA removed the future BE teams and added Temple & UMASS. So what makes this a MBB conference worse than the A10?

Southern Miss 7-1 20-3
Temple 6-2 17-5
Massachusetts 6-3 17-6
Tulsa 7-2 14-9
Marshall 5-4 14-9
Rice 4-5 13-11
UAB 4-5 9-13
Tulane 3-6 15-8
East Carolina 3-6 12-10
UTEP 3-6 10-13

It seems to me that Temple and UMASS are a big part of what makes the A10 a good basketball conference. So even if it is a lateral step and CUSA can pay more why wouldn't Temple consider it?

RE: C-USA has contacted Temple.
But Temple already is in a regionally based league that is as good or better, and their non revenue sports can travel easily to play their conference mates. Who wants to go play volleyball and have track meets in El Paso and Tulsa when you can have a 5 team meet with Philly area schools? There is one other sport that is being overlooked, and that is baseball..>Rice and Tulane are national powers in baseball.

That would have been our last AD that couldn't hire a decent basketball coach...He's at Northwestern now!

So the A10 has a handful of Philly schools?

UTEP and Tulsa are likely going to MWC if the merger doesn't happen too.

St Joe's and LaSalle in Philly to go along with Temple. Then there's Fordham in NYC and George Washington in D.C, Richmond in Virginia, Duquesne as an in-state rival, and St. Bonaventure, URI, and UMass all closer than any school would be in C-USA or the Alliance.

I can't find a C-USA map with the changes, but you can ignore UCF, Memphis, SMU, and Houston.

Post on re-alignment board states that once BE and WVU settle their lawsuit the Big 12 will invite Louisville...and it continues. (P.S. Temple, you still may get a call after all!)

I'm not sure why Big 12 ignored Memphis. Not a bad geographic location, and you bring in TN.

NIU should be building up programs to match the Big 12's interest. If they had invested in bball they'd be getting more attention.

They did. The facilities are there, Montgomery is a great hire and will have the Huskies competitive but it will take at least a few more recruiting classes. The talent is just not there. That last coach left the program in the worst position in the program's history.

The wrong coach can kill a program.

Oh, I don't doubt CUSA contracted Temple but the question is did the Owl AD laugh before or after he hung up the phone.

Sure, we'd love to join your sinking ship.

I don't know about CUSA contracting Temple, but I'd advise against anyone contracting CUSA. That's akin to Hemophilia.

That shows how rough of a loss Memphis is for CUSA. One of the 3 remaining founding members of CUSA along with So. Miss and Tulane and geographically in the center of the conference. This hurts big time particularly for So Miss and Tulane.

UAB didn't have the football initially.

One of the strengths of the second generation CUSA lineup was building around that Memphis, So Miss, Tulane, Houston core with Rice, SMU, Tulsa. CUSA has taken a more severe hit this time around and if it is to survive by itself will have to build a new identity.
