With Zook out at U of I wouldn't it be sweet to get this WR to flip

As thin as the 2012 class is for LB's, I hope this guy is getting some looks

Offer to WR Andrew Scanlan from Pennsylvania.

Nice looking player but he's visiting Northwestern this weekend so I wouldn't get too excited about this one.

He is definitely going to make a visit there. I don’t know what he plans to do after that.

To me this shows how good of a recruiting job this staff has done. The only positions we are not #1 or #2 we are not recruiting that hard because of current players already here.

Now the coaches just need to show that they can develop those players.

Funny how the two CPS kids are not rated at all. Also, all the other recruits are 5.4 one .1 below a 3 star

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
I can't get too worked up about tight ends. That seems to be a position where you can always find one or make one, sort of like fullback. If Matt Battaglia doesn't win a starting job on the o-line next year I would expect him to play some tight end for example. Why waste a senior with blocking ability. If I were the coach I would be tempted to always use walkons or converted linemen at tight end and save the schollys for other positions.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
I guess your right. Doesn't really seem like we use a TE in a passing game much either. More like an extra lineman. It just seems like we always loose out on good TEs.

Love to recruit 6'4 - 6'6 HS players. Let them develop as their body develops. It could be at TE of if they get bigger OT or DT, You can not recruit enough athletic tall players. It adds tremendous versatility to your roster.

I know we can slot anybody in there but it looks like DD is trying to find a big-time playmaker at the position. However, the good ones go fast apparently.

I wouldn't try to find a TE to play TE. Take a receiver with a huge ass frame and get him in the weight room. Like 1981 says, find those guys with the right body and make them into players. The best way to do that is to go after the type of kid that 05 recommends: tall and athletic. Figure out where the hell he'll play after a year in the weight room.

We haven't emphasized it as much as we used to due to the WR talent and depth we have had the last two years, but we've always had a lot of success lining up two TEs or going unbalanced. If those MAC Will linebackers could handle that big ass hoss coming off the ball on them, they wouldn't be weakside linebackers.

It's the "projectable body" thing I see when it comes to young baseball prospects. It's where dealing with young athletes is more art than science. Projecting out what can be done with the frame with the benefit of being in a college program. To me, this is where the real finds are for coaches in recruiting.
