Hawaii Leaves The WAC- Arkstfan Please Explain
In the paper this morning was a small article about Hawaii leaving the WAC for the Mountain West in football and the Big West in all other sports. This will leave the WAC with only San Jose State, Idaho, Utah State, New Mexico State, and Louisiana Tech as members. They are adding Texas State and UTSA with football teams, and Denver with basketball. I don't know what other prospects they have out there for additional members. Montana has already turned them down.
Arkstfan, please explain what the numbers mean. With only 5 current football playing members and even adding 2 more to get to 7, is that enough to be considered a football league under NCAA rules? And what about the basketball automatic bid? They will only have 5 schools who have been together for any length of time. Doesn't NCAA rules require 6 or 7 in that regard to have an automatic bid to the tournament? Please educate us on the ramifications here.

Tech will be moving on too. The WAC is dead. No way if I were a Southland team would I leave to join the WAC.

Sure would like to see Tech back in the SBC. That's where they are a natural fit. It would be good for them as well as the league.
