I always liked Chuck - he was a good guy to share a lunch table with at the MAC media day functions. Hope he is happy.

Editor's note: The following column was reprinted from the Tuesday edition of the Salisbury (N.C.) Post. Chuck Landon, who covers Marshall sports, has been a sportswriter at the Daily Mail for nearly 34 years.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Chuck Landon came down from the Charleston Daily Mail to represent West Virginia at the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association banquet.

He had been here several times before, so he knew what Salisbury had to offer.

But the NSSA had no idea what Landon had to offer until Monday afternoon.

Like always, Landon was hosted by Chip Short.

Landon shopped downtown. He went to the parties. He went to the receptions. He met a lot of new people. He got married. He ...

Whoa, Nellie.

He got what?

Married?

Another first, folks. We've seen Bob Hope entertain us. We've seen first-time winners and 30-time winners. But never, ever has an NSSA winner decided to get married here.

"It was absolutely perfect," Landon said.

It sure was.
