Post season tournaments? - HERDDDDD - 03-09-2019 02:28 PM

I know we all want to get to the NCAA tournament, but only 1will. 2 questions if Odu wins the tournament does the nit take anyone else from among us? Secondly, will your school enter one of the small tournaments cit/cbi??

Question 1...if ODU wins, no. There will not be a CUSA team in the NIT.

Question 2...I hope Marshall can accept a CIT or CBI bid. We need all the positive momentum we can get going into the new era. I also want to see Jon Elmore get as much recognition as possible.

Do you think Marshall will play in one of those? Or are you hoping they do?

I don’t think we would get an invite unless we win a few more games.

But there are realistically ten teams in CUSA who are capable.

1. No. Nobody other than ODU will get an NIT bid.

2. WKU’s policy has always been NCAA or NIT only. We will not play in any other post-season tournament.

So let me get this straight: WKU fails to gain an NIT or NCAA bid. Another tournament comes calling, but you’re above it even though you weren’t good enough to get into the two big tournaments? 01-wingedeagle okay then.

RE: Post season tournaments? - Herd6993 - 03-09-2019 05:25 PM

Coach D has already said Marshall will consider the CIT if they do not win the tourney. He said he felt like the SR's should finish their career either in the NCAA tournament or on their home court.

My take: If John is close to breaking the school's all time scoring record we will play in it provided no big dance. [/b]

We have the same policy, or did with previous administration. Not sure if Mike Hill will do things differently, and we certainly won't find out this season.

USM has said we won't pay to play, so no to CIT or CBI.
NIT ain't happening.

Yep if we aren’t good enough to play in the nit or ncaa we won’t go to another tournament. They don’t do anything for you and our fans don’t wanna watch them play in that tournament. On a side note it cost some money to pay in them.

As long as the policy has not changed, yes that is correct. We’ve turned down CBI/CIT bids in the past.

As a fan, that is fine with me. If we’re not in NCAA or NIT then the season needs to end. No need to drag on the misery.

I also don’t like the perception of a “mid-major only” tournament. That’s just my opinion however.

Not disagreeing as I couldn’t hear clearly after today’s game but it did sound like they announced “hold on to your parking pass in the event of a post season home game”.

Marshall will 100% definitely play in a post season tournmanet.

Which is beyond lame.

This isnt 1978

Read above. WKU is not the only team with this policy.

If you would like for your team to go play in one of these post-season tournaments that’s your prerogative. Just like not wanting to drag on a season is mine.

Obviously, NCAA is the goal. NIT provides the opportunity for some quality wins. To me, there aren’t many positives to playing in the others. Again, only MY opinion.

RE: Post season tournaments? - HERDDDDD - 03-09-2019 07:08 PM

It may be an opportunity for Elmore to get the record if they go that route

That could happen in the first round of the NIT if a lot of regular season champions lose in their conference tournaments and we submit a higher host bid than others.

RE: Post season tournaments? - Hilltopper2K - 03-09-2019 09:31 PM

No one other than ODU has a shot at NIT. Period. It's not close.

Don't worry. MT will be our representative in the NCAA Tournament as we play Gonzaga or Virginia again.
