We need another pod thread and what better topic than “name the pods”!

I haven’t seen anything officially calling them anything, we’ve been using 1,2,3 around here a lot, but hey, why not double down on that marketing sizzle and jazz up pod play even more with some catchy names!

Also, as a softball, feel free to toss in some corporate sponsorship, I think I can find a post or two earlier that went down that road 03-wink

Now without further ado, here’s my brilliant suggestions!

1-5 PRIMO POD
Prime cuts, best of the herd, top dawgs.

6-10 PRETTY POD
As in, pretty good, pretty fly for a CUSA guy, pretty much guaranteed a trip to Frisco

11-14 POOPY POD
Now I hate to get too negative, but embrace the poo. This would have been us last year and as the schedule worked out we kind of played a pod-like schedule last year against some of the other poopy teams at the end. We still pooped the bed and ended up 13th... but it’s still fun to play— whether you’re playing up on the PRIMO platform or just playing around with your poop down in the cat box.

As great as those are... what else ya got?

Why not go back to a classic? The good, the bad, and the ugly

So if you finish in the top pod, can you drop below a 5th seed for the tournament?

No. The pod basically starts the conference season over again within the pod. Each team in Pod 1 fights for 1-5, Pod 2, 6-10 and so on.

Ok that's what I thought. So a team in pod 2 can potentially end the season with a better record than a team in pod 1.

Yeah, but their seed for the CUSAT will be no higher than 6

It doesn't start the season over again. The entire season standings count. However it does lock you into your pod as far as tournament seeding.

Here's an example:

Pod 1:

Old Dominion 11-3
North Texas 10-4
UAB 10-4
Marshall 9-5
UTSA 9-5

Let's say in Pod play they finish like this:

Marshall 4-0
Old Dominion 3-1
North Texas 2-2
UAB 1-3
UTSA 0-4

So final standings:

Old Dominion14-4
Marshall 13-5
North Texas 12-6
UAB 11-7
UTSA 9-9

Old Dominion would be #1 seed with conference record of 14-4 even though Marshall went 4-0 in pod play.

Also, even though perhaps WKU finished 12-6 by going 4-0 in the second pod, they would finish #6 and UTSA #5 because once pod play starts you are locked into the seedings for that pod.

And please, these are just examples and not predictions.

Top Pod: Pod of Orcas. CUSA's truly capable teams. Penguins and seals beware!

Middle Pod: The band P.O.D. Good, but just good.

Low Pod: *Insert Tide Pod joke here*

Okay Stick, that makes more sense.

RE: ¡Name the Pods! - THUNDERStruck73 - 01-25-2019 08:11 PM

So it goes by descending conf. Record WITHIN the pod. So it could happen that we have a 6 seed with a better record than a 5 seed.

I’m not going to cheat by looking it up but didn’t they bring us ‘Youth of the Nation’?
Been a while since I heard that gem.

And say what you want, that song may only be good, but it’s better than Better Than Ezra’s Good.

¡Name the Pods! - owl at the moon - 01-25-2019 09:05 PM

Go back to the original names of the divisions when CUSA was formed....

Red
White
Blue

In the first two seasons for the 12-team league, teams played a 14-game conference schedule with Red, White and Blue divisions.

I’ll give it another shot:

Pod 1: Heaven
Pod 2: Mediocre World (My Band’s Original Song)
Pod 3: Hell Is For Children (Pat Benatar)

But I proclaim Guns the winner on the first try!
