I am a solutions kind of guy...... - Razor Ramon Monarch - 03-11-2018 12:53 AM

Many on this board complain that if we fire jeff (or just don't rehire him) our program will fall apart and we will be taking a huge risk.

Most all of them say "who would you hire instead" as though replacing jones would be some Hurculean task.

Well since you want answers, I have one for you.....

The cure to what ails us is...........Decuire! Get it?

Travis Decuire has a 80-48 record at Montana in 4 years, went to an NIT his first year and took Montana to the tourney in year 4. In 4 years he's already won 2 regular season titles and had one second place finish and now a tourney birth.

He's younger, I'm sure we could pay him more than he's earning at Montana and more importantly he already had roots here.

Hell maybe even bring Blaine back as HIS assistant! Wouldn't that be something?

This seems like a no-brainer. He's clean from the NCAA investigation standpoint and he's been a Monarch before.....he's is quite literally Decuire to what ails us!

He's coaching at his Alma Mater now. Are you sure he'd want to come here? He's a west coast guy. I'm sure he's probably happy where he is.

Travis is awesome choice but has no desire to make a lateral head coaching move, into a conference that essentially sucks, and to a region he has virtually no experience. He is a West Coast guy. Now if he was an assistant coach that this move meant a move up in position that is a different story. We need to give a hard look at Bryant Stith when the time comes.

I agree big time with this. I believe our recruiting would go through the roof. Just his NBA experience alone would guarantee that.

I dont think kids care that Stith played in the NBA years ago. I follow recruiting pretty heavily and there are lot of kids that domt care that Ewing played on NBA and hes a much higher profile than Stith.

So you are telling us that YOU are OK with a coach that was mentored by Montgomery and Taylor?03-lmfao

But it certainly doesn't hurt. If the future plan is to hire an up and coming assistant for the HC job, I say Stith fits that description to a tee. Plus the players respect him (Players Coach). Honestly if he's still with us. We should hire him. That is, if he wants the job.

Im not sure Stith wants to be a college head coach. He doesnt like the travel. I wouldnt be surprised if he packed it in after BJ leaves. (Not saying he will).

I respect that he is a family man. Im not sure he wants the grind.

Let's get Rick Pitino in here to compete with the other $lick Rick

RE: I am a solutions kind of guy...... - Spantheman34 - 03-11-2018 11:13 AM

Stith would be no improvement over JJ! He is not a people person and would bring no excitement back into the program. The coach has to know his X's and O's but he has to be a salesman also (aka Blaine Taylor). He has to excite the fans, play a brand of basketball that gets fans into their seats and out of their seats!

Then you must not follow recruiting very well. Stith was on 3 recruits and had them lined up for ODU until 2 top SEC and 1 ACC school came calling in the last couple of months. He is a wonderful person, very knowledge basketball person, and has instant credibility with parents and players.

Of course hes a great person. Who comes to odU because he played in the NBa 20 years ago?

Who stays away because he did? It doesn't hurt.

I doubt anyone stays away because of it.

Dave Macedo has always intrigued me. I often wondered if given a higher platform, school, team, and resources if he could replicate his success at a school like ODU.

He has intrigued me too. I think I would have liked him better when we hired JJ than now though, because I think he'll need some time to adjust and we should be in more of an elevate stage now with a quicker turnaround whereas we were in a rebuilding situation before.

He can't even win in the ODAC despite having the talent to do so.

A Virginia wesleyan coach. Good grief guys. I thought you wanted someone with a resume?
