Middle Tennessee Facilities Upgrades and Master Plan - ThreeifbyLightning - 02-14-2018 01:36 PM

Middle Tennessee AD, Chris Massaro, has presented planned facility upgrades to the MT Board of Directors. Below is the video portion of the presentation that illustrates converting the area between Floyd Stadium and the Murphy Center into athletics venue courtyard. The new facilities would include an IPF, a new football facility with locker room and coaches suites, and end zone facility with club seats. It will also include a new basketball facility just below the Murphy Center...

Much of the rest of campus has certainly undergone massive transformations in the near eight years since I moved away, hope we're able to pull this off and keep it close to what's presented.

Middle was in need of some serious upgrades, I don’t like you guys, but your program has earned it and some support is overdue

Impressive.Any cost figures?

RE: Middle Tennessee Facilities Upgrades and Master Plan - ThreeifbyLightning - 02-14-2018 07:01 PM

When I talked to Chris about it a few weeks back I guessed $80 to $100 million to do it all and then caveated my guess and said or $60 M with no bells and whistles (which is the MT way). And he said that was almost identical to the numbers the architects gave them. So, in other words somewhere between $60 and $100 million.

Sounds great, hope it happens and is more than just a set of designs that ends up on some dusty shelf somewhere.

Very nice additions, but I am shocked that such a huge project doesn't encompass any upgrades to the Murphy Center. I certainly respect your basketball team of late, but I think that place is an eye sore. Wooden pull-out bleachers plus a track around the top? There has to be something that can be done during this project to give it a much needed face lift.

However, I love the concept of tying all your facilities together. And I'm definitely jealous of the IPF. That's one thing that should be nearing completion at WKU as I type this were it not for a power play by a local medical group. That one really stings.

There is something in the works for suites in Murphy Center, I don't know if that's separate from this project or not.

Quote:...Trustees approved a new Athletics Master Plan, which now goes to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for review. The plan, required before fundraising efforts can go forward, suggests several improvements such as a new football team facility; Murphy Center practice court improvements and club seating; an entry plaza; and a new multi-sport indoor practice facility.....

Not sure. I've heard some rumors money has already been raised for the first phase or two. It just has to be green lighted by the state.

Won't be long before we have that answer officially though.

The only bad part is the removal of the wookie steps leading into the Murphy Center. I know western fans have a special place in their hearts for them.

Middle has been a good addition to CUSA

At least leave one of the four corners with wookie steps, just for our friends from Western :)
