Ole Miss and Andy Kennedy agree to part ways after the season is over.

Wow, 12 seasons...I'm surprised he lasted that long. Some mid-major program is going to pick up an extremely mediocre coach.

I don’t wish ill will on anyone but I’d be lying if I told you there isn’t a part of me that wants him to crash and burn at his next stop.

AK is not a mediocre coach. It's not easy recruiting quality talent to Oxford, Mississippi. Kennedy has had as much success there as any Ole Miss coach has ever had.

Announcing it the day that UC gets ranked in the Top 5 in both national polls has a certain sweet symmetry to it.

RE: OT: Andy Kennedy to step down after season - doss2 - 02-12-2018 06:30 PM

AK did better than almost anyone has done at Ole Miss. Recruiting to Oxford MS is not easy.

Good luck wherever he lands. I will always remember how Microphone Thomas made an A hole out of himself turning of the mic.

Why don't people like him? I mean, he had one incident with the valet in Cincy, but I never heard any other bad things about him.

Search it. Too many long debates on this forum regarding AK. Lets just appreciate Randy Kennedy

AK was a good, solid coach. Nothing spectacular. He did a great job holding the 2006 team together for that season, we should've been in the tournament. Had a solid career at Ole Miss, nothing amazing, but solid for Ole Miss standards. I'm guessing after 12 years Ole Miss probably thought it was starting to get stale and time for a fresh face. Especially with MSU, Bama, Auburn stepping it up.

I can think of a few schools that would be a good landing spot:

1) UAB. His alma matter, and they have a decent basketball history. Could turn them into one of the better teams in the CUSA.

2) ECU. If he makes one NIT he would be a God. The AAC has turned into the land of misfit toys for P5 coaches lately.

3)DePaul. I think he could make them respectable again and take them out of the train wreck they've been in for so long.

4) Charlotte. I don't know what has happened to that program ever since Lutz left but they are a flaming bag of donkey poo right now. AK could get them back to respectability.

The "Randy Kennedy" bit brings up a pretty solid point about the hoops expectations. You build a new $90M arena, that comes with increased expectations. Sucks for AK, but is what it is.

RE: OT: Andy Kennedy to step down after season - rath v2.0 - 02-12-2018 06:53 PM

edit: never mind. Someone else’s problem. I’d take Tubberville back before AK.

Yea, the facilities were junk when he got there, but they did invest in the program towards the end of his tenure, but his recruiting never got the level it needed to get to.

He had 12 seasons at Mississippi. That is a lot more than many guys get at the helm of a program in mediocrity. That said, I still appreciate how he handled the UC job during the season of the ugly Huggs break with the university.

***EDIT*** (I was responding to a post from rath that has gone by the way of a bleached hard drive LOL)

I'm just saying from the 3,000 foot view that was a difficult year no matter how you slice it after our "legendary" coach was let go. Plus, that was our first year transitioning to the Big East and I believe we finished near .500 in the conference that year.

Yep. Tommy's destruction of the football program was largely due to being passive and lazy. Kennedy's destruction of MBB program was active from what I've heard.

Didn’t Kennedy encourage Devon Downey to transfer elsewhere?

RE: OT: Andy Kennedy to step down after season - rath v2.0 - 02-12-2018 09:58 PM

He did a lot of things those last few months.

RE: OT: Andy Kennedy to step down after season - bearcatmark - 02-12-2018 09:59 PM

I hate revisiting this but wtf could Kennedy do? He couldn't recruit... They had McGowan and Downey as real guys that could come back. The program was going to be decimated if he tried everything he possibly could.
