Football Signing Day Part Deux - rath v2.0 - 02-05-2018 10:12 PM

Dark period starts at midnight and football LOIs can be sent in starting @ 7 am or so.

Anyone in the AAC got any big surprises for the morning? Any presents under the tree?

The early signing period takes some wind out of the sails but its awfully quiet on the football front for the first week of February.

From what I know Tulsa just looks to sign those who hadn't signed last time along with the players they've added since. Basically just getting those they expected to.

But there may be some one more in the know who might have knowledge of a surprise player.

I sure hope we have a surprise or two up our sleeve. We have a bizarre class right now. 18 commits in total, of which 6 are O-Line (+1 Tight End) and 5 are D-Line. Throw in two linebackers and this has to be the "biggest" class we've ever had.

For our skill positions, all we have is 1 safety, 2 corners, and 1 receiver. No QBs or RBs. 03-lmfao

Somehow, this class still has a higher average recruit rating than last year's class did (which was also our best class ever).

RE: Football Signing Day Part Deux - JHG722 - 02-05-2018 11:55 PM

Temple is adding:

NJ 3* LB/DE Travon King
NY 3* DE David Nwaogwugwu
PA 3* RB Onasis Neely
SC 2* DE Tyreke Young

That should be it.

I have nothing to add, but if it's alright with y'all, I'm just going to chill out in this Shocker-free thread.

LOL. Can we trade some of our edge guys for an OL or two? 3 straight HCs and its a position we really struggle with for some reason.

Good luck tomorrow for those of you who still have room to fill. Hope everyone in the AAC has a great class.

Hey its nice not having a thread be all about what so many have been about of late.

I know we've missed on about 5 players, the staff refuses to recruit a 6'5" 275 3* JUCO DE that is from NC and wants to come to ECU and Mo apparently has us poised to play a 1-1-8 defense with the number of DB's he continues to take when everyone who's played us can see how bad we are on the DL.

In short, I feel our weekly whippings will continue.

RE: Football Signing Day Part Deux - KnightNasty - 02-06-2018 08:49 AM

We’re adding a 6’1 WR that is a hair faster than Adrian Killins...

...which is just stupid fast lol.

RE: Football Signing Day Part Deux - BearcatMan - 02-06-2018 09:50 AM

Looks like our last two spots will be filled with two out of this group of three if rumors are to be believed:

Jairus Brents: 4* DB, #230 overall
Leonard Taylor: 4* ATH (TE/DE/OL), #289 overall
Tavion Thomas: 4* RB, #300 overall (former Oklahoma verbal who is between OU, Ohio State, Tennessee, and UC but apparently a UC lean)

I'm loving this early signing period...it allows for our staff to really zero in on a few hats and try to pull out some rabbits.

As it stands, if we do get two of these three, we'll be #1 AAC, #1 non-P5, and somewhere in the high 40's to low 50's overall. And that's after a 4-8 year...

SMU's class will be small in numbers, but the average rating per recruit will look much better. Dykes already has 2 kids committed that are higher rated than anyone Morris got in three years, and he has a change at 2 more that would be higher than any Morris recruit.

that maybe true, but it looks like morris really had an eye for underrated talent since you've had 4 (maybe more) decommits since the coaching change who then committed to some big programs. i think that's a better reflection of recruiting than what these amateurs at rivals, 247, etc think.

RE: Football Signing Day Part Deux - zfred12 - 02-06-2018 12:59 PM

UCF will probably add one more and put us 3rd overall in the conference and the 2nd highest average rating behind Cinci (247 ratings).

Will be a small class compared to the rest of the conference but the average recruit rating will be top 2-3 on both 247 and rivals.

RE: Football Signing Day Part Deux - BearcatMan - 02-06-2018 01:20 PM

Digging a little deeper, Cincinnati could have the five highest rated players in the conference by Wednesday evening if Tavion Thomas and Leonard Taylor commit.

I love it, too. Also let’s us focus on 2019 instead of playing catch up after working full time until February to defend a class from being poached by P5 programs.

Hopefully Thomas and Taylor land with UC but I worry about things that can happen the night before signing that LOI. Watch out for UL on all the kids we are still in on.

We've lost 5 players since the Morris departure that subsequently signed/committed to P5 programs and have added 2 since the Dykes hire that have strong P5 offers. SMU should be able to add a couple more tomorrow that have several strong P5 offers.

UCF's is a meh class but trenches is never sexy

Life outside the Power 5 gets old when you follow recruiting...it's a roadblock with some recruits

Cincy and Ucfs Gms need to sit down and discuss trade.

Games are won and lost in the trenches (and the QB position). Gotta have those good big men to really compete.

Not to brag, our mean average recruit, is better than UConn's and Tulsa's best recruit. If we sign Taylor and Thomas, it may also include Memphis, Navy and Temple.
