Selection Committee Metrics - ThreeifbyLightning - 01-29-2018 12:24 PM

Here are where the top five/six teams are in the five ranking systems of which the selection committee will have access. Thought it would be good to take a look at where things stand as we begin the first week of February.

3. ODU (91)
4. Marshall (97)

ODU is #69, not #96 in the BPI.

Corrected. Thanks.

Damn I hate Sagarin

RE: Selection Committee Metrics - TribeNiner - 01-29-2018 12:46 PM

When does Dance Card start putting numbers out?

RE: Selection Committee Metrics - STexMiner - 01-29-2018 01:49 PM

Selection Committee metrics: whichever numbers justify getting an 18-13 (8-10) Big 10 team in over a 25-6 (14-2) non-power conference team.

RE: Selection Committee Metrics - hooverblazer - 01-29-2018 03:54 PM

This may actually be the year where it's feasible for us to get two teams in.

If Middle can run the table with their only regular season loss being to WKU and then make it to the CUSA CG and lose then I feel like CUSA would easily get 2 bids....but with the Selection Committee nothing is a given with non P5 schools.

Our loss was to Marshall but your point is still good

Was meaning you could have 1 more regular season loss but only with it being to WKU. Just my opinion though.

Ok, you had me confused with 'run the table' since that usually means go undefeated. Then it wouldn't be our only regular season loss, we would have 2 :) But that would a bit tougher... not sure how double losses in regular season would play out. Hopefully the strength of schedule would be enough.

If its every going to happen this is the season....Pac 12 sucks, Big 10 is down, A-10 is way down too...That in itself is normally 5 or 6 bids those three conference may not have this season...Only issue is now SEC used to get 4 or 5 teams in, this season talking about 9 teams! Yes, ridiculous 9, we need the top 5 teams in SEC to separate themselves, that would help us to get two in a lot besides both us and MUTS keep winning...

WKU and Middle are both on the bubble without a doubt. Both teams probably have to win out (other then when they play again) and probably need to meet in the championship game.

ESPN and CBS have MTSU as the autobid. ESPN has WKU as one of the first 4 out while CBS has WKU as one of the last 4 in.

SI also has wkcc as last four out.

If ODU beats Middle, the win against them in Norfolk will look very good. That Purdue win is already at the top. If WKU wins out, and loses in the conference championship, they will likely head to the NCAA Tournament.

RE: Selection Committee Metrics - WKUFan518 - 01-31-2018 09:26 AM

Its still early, we over a month left of games, a lot can happen and this season has already been chaotic.....

I think, barring a complete meltdown, WKU is in. Remember when we got an at-large with this resume almost solely based on beating Georgetown?

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/schedule/_/id/295/year/2007

And this was back before the "First 4" round when there was only 64 teams.

I beilieve WKU's resume is better. The Purdue win is bigger than many here are giving credit for.

RE: Selection Committee Metrics - CincyDave - 01-31-2018 09:41 AM

The current problem for WKU, assuming we win out (other than maybe a loss to MTSU again) is the Ohio loss. That loss looks worse and worse everyday. Missouri State and Wisconsin losses also don't look very good.

The JMU team we lost to in the above 2006-2007 season went 7-23 (4-14) and finished #300 in the RPI rankings. Ohio's projected RPI is 187. Our final RPI that year was 40, which is WKU's RPI. The main difference being our Georgetown win was a true road win while your Purdue win was on a neutral court. Pretty similar resumes and WKU also has the benefit of a 68 team tournament.
