SunBelt vs cusa games for 2018 - AppinSC - 01-26-2018 07:57 AM

cusa already has their schedules released for 2018 football and I noticed some nice matchups.

Sept 1 - La Tech vs S.Ala
Sept 8 - App vs Charlotte, ULM vs S.Miss, and UAB vs Coastal Carolina
Sept 15 - S.Miss vs App
Sept 22 - Tx St vs UTSA

I would like to see the Belt go at least 4-2 if not better.

I feel pretty good...at this time...of ULM taking a win from SoMiss.

Next season is ULM's chance to do some damage. You guys have a lot of starters and backups returning.

If South Alabama could be consistent, they'd be one of the best teams in the conference. I've said it for years. Hopefully the new coach can accomplish that. That game against La Tech is a huge statement game at the beginning of the season. If USA could roll over them at home, it would set the tone for the rest of their season.

I also think ULM and App can both beat Southern Miss. They have had coaching instability for a little while now including four coaches leaving this past year alone. From a GS fan, that's a big deal that will hurt a team no matter how talented they are. Both ULM and App should be able to take them down.

If App somehow loses to UNCC, it's going to be a long season for y'all.

I'm not sure about TXST's and CCU's chances.

La Tech vs. South Alabama could be interesting. La Tech will be favored, but it's a hard to play a team with a completely new coaching staff and new offensive/defensive schemes in the very first game of the season. USA will know what La Tech does. La Tech won't know what USA does, besides looking at what Steve Campbell did at UCA and what Edenfield did at Troy when he was calling plays 4 years ago.

This happened to Troy in 2009. We played Bowling Green in our first game of the season, and they had a completely new coaching staff and were picked to finish 8th in the MAC. Troy was coming in as the Sun Belt favorite and receiving Top 25 votes. Leading up to the game, Blakeney kept mentioning how difficult it was to prepare for the Falcons because they were relying on old tapes and making assumptions. Troy wound up getting drubbed 31-14, and Bowling Green really wasn't that good...

So USA has a shot at doing the same.

I would like to see the Belt go at least 4-2 if not better.

Let's try to break it down:
La Tech vs S.Ala.- La Tech was a bowl team last year and appears to be losing just 3 starters on both Offense and Defense. S.Ala is breaking in a new coach. The Jags have the home field but not too sure how much of an advantage that is. La Tech by 10

App vs UNCC- UNCC is one of, if not the worst teams in CUSA. App's 2nd string talent is good enough to win this game I believe. Plus I'd count on it being more of a home game crowd wise for App then Charlotte. Give me App by at least 3 TDs.

UML vs S.Miss.- S.Miss is loosing their stud RB(Ito Smith) to graduation, and their stud WR (Korey Robertson) to the draft, along with the other starting WRs. Plus losing at least 5 starters on D. UML has most the starters returning. SMiss does have the home field advantage. This game I believe is the closest of all in trying to predict. I'm not sure if I trust ULM to play well but I'll go with my heart. Evans scores a last minute TD for the win. UML by 3.

UAB vs Coastal- So, SO disappointed in Coastal losing this game last year. But looking at how both teams finished the year, I shouldn't have been surprised. UAB returns more then CCU, and even though the game is in Conway, I think UAB rebuilding process is much further along then CCU. I'm thinking the Blazers by 13.

S.Miss vs APP- Both teams coming off bowl seasons, both teams have a lot of talent to replace. App is now in game 3 with the new QB. Talent wise, its pretty even. But winning in Boone is not very easy. Neers come up with the 4th quarter defense stops, App wins by 14.

TxSt vs UTSA- Ouch, what a drumming last year. Can a year make up that difference? Game is in UTSA, and lets be honest, the rebuilding process has been slow in TxSt. Maybe the Cats can get on a roll before the game, but I'm afraid the Birds are going to "run" away with this one again. UTSA by 17.

That puts it at 3-3, would love to see 4-2 or better, but find it unlikely. ULM vs S.Miss and La Tech vs S. Al. are the key games I think to decide which conference has the head to head upper hand. Either way, Go SunBelt!!!

I don't see them scoring much on that APP defense. Going with APP 31-10.

Charlotte is awful. Period. App wins 2,748,273 to -14.

RE: SunBelt vs cusa games for 2018 - CardinalBlackTrojan - 01-26-2018 11:40 AM

Boone, in my opinion, is one of the toughest G5 stadiums to win at. I guess it's a mix of the large crowd noise and the 3,333 ft. altitude.

Just because of that, I would take App over Southern Miss.

We should be able to win them all! 6-0 CUSA is below us now and have been for a couple seasons!

Easiest to Hardest to win
1.App vs Charlotte (App should win by 30+)
2. S.Miss vs App (beat down coming App wins by 20+)
3.La Tech vs S.Ala (South will win by 14 with new coach at home)
4.Tx St vs UTSA (Tx St is starting to get it together. They win by 10
5.ULM vs S.Miss (ULM wins by 7 on road
6. UAB vs Coastal Carolina (home game for Coastal and its going to be a payback win from last year with a 3 point win)

UAB 31 Coastal Carolina 20
Tx St 17 UTSA 24

UTSA loses 9 starters on offense, including their starting QB and RB. They even lost some of the backups that were part of their two-deep. They also lose 5 starters on defense.

If Texas State loses this game, with all the experience they have coming back, then Withers needs to be fired.

Yet, CUSA is 16-7 against the Sun Belt since 2014... 07-coffee3

The Sun Belt is a great conference; I've always said that. I think Coach did a great job at breaking down the games. I could see 3-3 with a +/- 1 swing for either conference. There are definitely those given wins on both sides with a few being toss ups.

RE: SunBelt vs cusa games for 2018 - chiefsfan - 01-26-2018 01:39 PM

Tech beats South
UAB Beats Coastal
App Beats Charlotte
App beats USM

Toss Ups:

TXSt vs UTSA
ULM vs USM

RE: SunBelt vs cusa games for 2018 - Golota - 01-26-2018 02:25 PM

I think ULM has a very good shot at USM. We return two of our DBs that we’re playing good before a shoulder and some type of hernia or something.
USM was said to be losing 13 starters and that was before the wr declared. They’ll load up with JUCOs but that’s game 2 hopefully they not where they need to be.

All I know is win, lose, or draw, USA will be touted as the best SBC team by some groups of people. And I’m not talking about USA fans. Lol

I might have given them more hell for that, but then we laid an egg in Mobile.

Who is UML?!?! Lol.

RE: SunBelt vs cusa games for 2018 - BRtransplant - 01-27-2018 07:44 AM

In order of degree of certainty:

App St over Charlotte
UAB over Coastal
UTSA over TX St
La Tech over South Alabama
USM over ULM

USM vs App St is a toss up

If ULM and App can both beat USM that would look pretty dang good for SBC.
