Isn't it Great to Have National Spotlight on Our Baseball Team...... - eaglebeaver - 01-24-2018 06:30 PM

and a coupla All-Amuricans to boot? 04-cheers

Any chance that ever happens in football, or are the odds too stacked against it?

Just kinda fun to read things in national publications that mention playoffs, but don't mention "P5", or "82nd or 200th in the nation", or "if things work out this year they may make it to the N.O. Bowl!" whoooooopeeeeeee!03-lmfao

It’s nice to have a great baseball team and for them to get national recognition in their field. I’m an old left hander myself and love the game. Unfortunately though, outside of about 30 schools (most of them in the south), virtually no one gives a rip about college baseball. It’s a niche sport at best.

I love going to the Pete and seeing good baseball. Been doing it most of my life. But for whatever reason, in other areas of the country it gets zero following. Even some of the really good programs out West have trouble getting over 1500 people to a game.

Which is why the NCAA still has a reasonably fair playoff system in baseball, unlike football!04-cheers

Just don’t let 6-6-17 happen again.

there's too many other things to do and college baseball isn't one of them....

even MLB during the regular season (due to length of season) isn't much of an ad $$$ draw....

it's a slow game that too many don't have the patience for......

it's a shame.....

I can't wait to watch this team AND my StL Cards......

right now it's hockey for me.....

I've said this for years: Baseball is the only major sport in which Southern Miss can possibly win a National Title at the Division I level. In football and basketball, there is 0% chance. But baseball can be done and it has been done by several other "small" schools in the modern era: Coastal Carolina, Fresno State, Cal State Fullerton, Rice, Pepperdine, Wichita State

Instead of our coach going out begging for money anytime he needs something, we should be pouring in any extra money we can into the baseball program. It easily has the most national potential.

Indeed. The baseball program is also the only program we have that can compete nationally in terms of facilities, support, tradition, and recruiting.

Basketball has a shot if we invest in it like we do football, but no shot in football, at least not in the current setup.

It’s easy to say we should pour money into baseball because it has a shot at a national title. But if you’re the AD, how could you justify that financially ? It would kill the football program. The football program is our only money maker. It keeps the other programs afloat. Without it, we’d be headed for FCS.
