It went from a 3 point lead to a one point deficit on that play. It's tough without knowing if something was said, but Avery generally is not a chatty player. The video was pretty clear though. A Toledo player pushing his way into the middle of the Kent State huddle and continuing to push his way in as they move. Finally after they get him out and he tries to push back in, Avery puts his forearm in his chest to hold him out (not even aggressive contact). And the result is a technical on us. I have no problem with the way Avery responded. That's absolute bush league and I would be embarrassed if a Kent player did that. It's really tough that something like that would cost us. I'd like to say keep your composure and don't let them bait you like that, but like I said, I think Avery responded appropriately. That's just tough. The 17-9 foul differential really hurt too.

Was the Toledo player trying to get to the FT line as he was the one who was fouled and next up to shoot his FT's? If he was, then he does have the right to position himself at the line and KSU should have moved their huddle. Most times the FT shooter will simply wait a few moments for the opposing huddle to break up. With all the barking that went on up to that point, don't imagine either team was going to display much sportsmanship...

I'd have to see it again but I don't think it was happening at the free throw line. Also, Fletcher was the one that was fouled and I'm pretty sure he was not the guy getting in the huddle. I believe it was Adway. Either way it was cheap on Toledo's part and ridiculous on the refs part.

I'm just reading up on the game. I had to check scores last night. Sounds like the second game the refs called far from even against us. Is this becoming a trend for some reason?

The trend the last two games has been few fouls called in the first half then lopsided against us in the second. My guess is it's the same reason why when the fouls are lopsided at half time it evens out in the second half. The refs go in at half time, review the numbers and say hey, Kent averages almost 20 fouls a game and we've only called 3 or 4 on them. Not saying there's any kind of conspiracy against us just that we've got a reputation for fouling at this point.

In the last two games we've had a total of 7 fouls called on us in the first half vs. 25 in the second. While our opponents have had 9 in the first half vs. 12 in the second.

Don't forget that we have had some of the same refs for the last few games. They are certainly familiar with our team.....03-banghead
