Just out of curiosity, how does this compare with the top teams in the AAC last year? Just wondering if we are on pace for a better year in metrics?

I could probably look it up although I am not a paying subscriber. Just wondering if those that track it remember how last year was.

Thanks. Well looking at the metrics last year vs this year I can definitely see why so many are still hopeful for 3 or more bids this year. Top teams are still in decent to good shape. I am just not used to being able to lose in conference and still have a prayer lol. Still getting used to that.

I assume the Kenpom ratings are more strict then the usual RPI ?

RE: Week 11 Kenpom rankings - TU4ever - 01-15-2018 02:26 PM

RPI is what the committee uses

RPI rankings as of 1/14

18 wsu
37 cincy
50 houston
51 temple
58 ucf
73 uconn
86 smu
99 Memphis
119 Tulane
120 Tulsa
290 usf
310 ecu

I know next to nothing about Basketball, but does UCF have a legit shot at making the NCAA as an at large?

KenPom uses offensive and defensive efficiency which means things like margin of victory and actual performance is what effects the rankings. For example: UCF dropped 8 spots after they got destroyed by top 10 WVU but went up 4 spots after a close loss on the road to #36 SMU.

It’s just one element. RPI is primarily used for top 50-100 wins or so. Actual ranking not as important. Others used too. Eapecially AP and Coaches.

It's the main element for using in comparison. Not nessarily in #55 vs #58 but in creating win loss records vs good or bad teams. 1-30 at home or 1-70 on the road are good games. Games against 150+ rpi are bad and losses will really or hurt.

According to Five Thirty-Eight, ESPN's Strength of Record is the best predictor of the committee (compared to RPI, Pomeroy, BPI etc.)

Current ESPN SOR:

12 Wichita St
21 Cincy
34 Houston
71 UCF
74 UConn
77 Memphis
90 SMU --> one reason why I think SMU has a lot of work to do.
94 Temple
114 Tulane
148 Tulsa

Tomorrow's UCONN @ Memphis game should be good.
