Armageddon is getting worse....

Quote:Walmart is boosting the minimum hourly wage for its U.S. employees to $11 and dishing out bonuses of up to $1,000, crediting President Trump's tax cut for enabling the move.

The increase for the nation's largest private employer also comes amid political pressure to bolster minimum wages and comes amid a hot streak for the retailer.

The big-box store chain, which has more than 1 million U.S. hourly employees, will reap a windfall from the corporate tax rate cut from 35% to 21%.

The move also comes amid a 17-year low for the U.S. unemployment rate, which has intensified competition for good workers.

“Today, we are building on investments we’ve been making in associates, in their wages and skills development,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said in a statement. “It’s our people who make the difference and we appreciate how they work hard to make every day easier for busy families.”

McMillon said Trump's corporate tax cut "gives us the opportunity to be more competitive globally and to accelerate plans for the U.S.”

Walmart's announcement follows a series of similar moves by major corporations that also credited the tax cut with bolstering their businesses.

For example, AT&T and Comcast dished out one-time bonuses of $1,000 to non-management workers, while Wells Fargo and Fifth Third Bancorp boosted base hourly pay to $15.

It's a start.

If the tax cuts really are what are going to help move Wal-Mart away from using public assistance to supplement their payrolls then I'm happy.

This will have a disproportionally positive impact here in the South where companies like Wal-Mart have abused public assistance programs.

Wal Mart by far has the largest number of employees in the US. This will affect a large number of people and families.

have to wait and see. For most of these companies, its a one time bonus. My company so far has only talked about share repurchases

While the bonus is nice.....

for those going from $10 a hour to $11 it's 9% raise and adds up to $1716 more than they were pocketing on a 33 hour work week. Those that want to dismiss this because of the money WalMart taken in and will save on taxes. Means nothing to the people going from $10 a hour to $11

That $143 extra a month can mean a lot to those who are living off the $10 a hour.

The question I have for the hate Trump people. Do we see that increase without Trump in the White House? Let me repeat...those getting the 9% raise don't give a **** about WalMart getting a tax break. They care about what they take home.

20 years ago those people made up a lot of democrat votes. Now the party has left those people.....$143 extra a month. Trump is probably looking a lot better to those 1 million democrats.

At the beginning of the year 18 states raised their minimum wage.

They should care, it's why they are getting the raise. Anybody that doesn't get that is ignorant or just plain stupid.

So 18 states raising minimum wage had nothing to do with it? Do you have a link for that?

I guess I was not clear on what I meant. Most of those people are getting their news from one of the three staples, ABC, NBC, CBS. So all they hear is how much money companies like Wal Mart will be saving and they get nothing. I'm sure the believed every word of it.

Today....what WalMart saves is no longer a problem. They just were given a 9% raise or $143 dollars extra a month. Money they would not have got if not for the tax cut to WalMart. Working people living pay check to pay check....cares about living to that next check. This just helped them more than do just that.

So now they dont give a **** about whaT the media was saying or what WalMart is saving

Walmart was going to be forced to raise the minimum wage in 18 states anyway so this has as much to do with it as that. 07-coffee3

Dude, did you ever take an econ class? Even had WalMart raised the wage in those states no way they would do it across the nation unless there was this tax relief. This is econ 101 stuff.

Nothing would have forced them to do it but you cannot say that it didn't influence their decision.

Sure, here you go. Notice that 16 of the states had increases that are still below the $11 per hour walmart is putting in place.
