To all those from the G4 teams that thinks beating an AAC team means something in the grand scheme of things, guess what. It doesn't.
The NY6 Bowl is the only bowl game that truly matters to the AAC teams. We could lose all the rest of our bowl games and win just this one bowl game and it obviates any doubts about the AAC being P6.
Celebrate your bowl game wins by all means, but the AAC teams that lost aren't sweating it, we know if we win our conference next year, we'll play in the NY6 Bowl.
Winning that one is all that matters.

AAC wins Access bowl teams: "Yeah Power 6 baby, woooo! Auburn was completely motivated to play a UCF squad after they had a shot at the CFP!"

Clearly, this was the Super Bowl for UCF, and Auburn was disinterested. With that, it was a good win for the G5. Will pay dividends. Thanks UCF

Of course all the games count so they matter. However, based on the way college football is set up it is not necessarily the best way to assess the strength of a team/conference. Teams that are faced with coaching changes rarely do well in their bowl games with a new staff/no staff. The exception is a game like Florida State v Souther Miss where the talent disparity was so large that it doesn't matter who the coach is. The record will show that the American ended the bowl season at 4-3. 4-2 is a better representation of the strength of this conference. La Tech beat SMU fair and square but you have to be blind not to realize that it was not the same SMU team that played in the regular season.

I wouldn't say the NY6 is the only bowl game that matters but;
1) We're the only non P5 member to win one in this new era
2) We've won it 3 times. 3-0
3) That's P6
The other games that matter are the games vs. P5 members. 3-1 in bowls this year. G4 gonna be jelly but beating each other doesn't matter.

We have only won it 2 times. The other time we were still a power conference so it doesn’t really count.

1. BSU won the fiesta bowl in 2014
2. AAC is 2-0 in access bowls. 2013 UCF was riding the big east aq spot so it was not an access bowl.
3. BSU is 3-0 in New Year's Day bowls by themselves
