JORDAN LYNCH new Head coach Mt. Carmel - HUSKiESbelieve - 12-29-2017 07:25 PM

Good Luck Jordan! Hope this builds a good relationship with NIU and the high school powerhouse Mt. Carmel.

RE: JORDAN LYNCH new Head coach Mt. Carmel - HUSKiESbelieve - 12-29-2017 07:30 PM

better things to come for NIU! Let's show our continued support of the program even after the disappointing bowl losses.

Good for him. It will be tough to follow in the footsteps of their legendary coach but Lynch is a worker. I wish him the best and hope Mt Carmel can be a pipe line to niu.

Lenti's son is the DC. Really is kind of an awkward situation.

Dave, the DC under Frank, is his brother.

Thanks for the correction. Does he also have a son on the staff?

Boy is it an awkward situation over there for Mt Carmel. Lenti is claiming he wasn't ready to step down. Alumni are all roused up.

Wow really? I'm surprised he said that even if he thought it. Have they won lately? Maybe game was passing him by?

If the game was passing him by, he wouldn't have finished the season 9-4 in 2017 and wouldn't have lost by a score in the state semifinals to undefeated Lake Zurich.

True, MC missed the playoffs last year for the first time in decades, but their conference was one of the best in the state. True, they had the breaks beat off them by other rival schools this year. It's probably true they lost out on other talent due to the nature of their option offense and the desire of parents and others to have their kids learn a pro-style to get to the NFL, as if that should be the main reason why they play the sport in the first place This explains it in more detail:

If they were pushing him out due to abuse or illegal conduct, it would be one thing. But Lenti won 11 state titles. 374 games. Other than a IHSA suspension a few years back for improperly inviting potential students/recruits to a playoff game, which the school admitted to, he hasn't been accused of massive wrongdoing. Nobody is bigger than the school, but he more than earned the right to go out on his own terms. Shame on Mount Carmel.

As for Jordan, he obviously wants to be a head coach, he's young enough to relate to the kids, and it's his alma mater. With Carey's long-term future undecided, it's an understandable move. But he has to follow a HOF legend and a situation that became toxic fast. That's impossible for most to handle. If I were him, I would not want anything to do with such a completely unfair decision on my former coach, but that's for Jordan to explain, not me.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have a co-worker who is married to somebody on staff at MC, but I have never met him and other than going to an occasional HS game where they play in Chicago, I have no other ties to the school.

Lenti forgot who his boss was. It was a power struggle and he lost.

Rumor is admin wanted him out last year after losing record for 2nd time I believe. The school president it 1st non-lay person to ever run school. 66 yo retired Motorola finance vp. He is running it like a business. The only logical reason is youth, get kids from Beverly/Mt. Greenwood area they have lost to St. Rita, Br. Rice, Marist. So to me, I think they believe it is more than winning, but atmosphere and culture and perception.

From Sun Times:
Mount Carmel alum and current NIU player Michael Kennedy wasn’t surprised about the move.

“I’m excited for Jordan Lynch,” Kennedy said. “It’s no surprise to me that [Lenti] isn’t the head coach anymore, Mount Carmel has been going through a lot of changes lately.”

Mount Carmel has had several high-profile players transfer out in recent years, most heading to prep schools. The school also has recently seen its dominance heavily challenged by dynamic young coaches at Catholic League rivals Loyola and Brother Rice.

The rise of Phillips also has changed the perception of Lenti and Mount Carmel in the city. Just five years ago, it is likely that several of Phillips’ current star players would have enrolled at Mount Carmel instead.

In the end, are you worried about kids leaving or why? You can also add Horward Girffith's all-american son who transferred to that college feeder program in Sarasota/Brandenton. In they end, I don't think this has much to do with Lenti or anything he did off the field or winning. I business man is running the school and wants to run it that way. It may work out, namely when you have 10 million plus (likely a lot more)in donations in endowment, new facilities that alumni have sprung for. I think the new regime is turning their back on these individuals, coaches and looking to the future in the changes that have occurred in the neighborhood and enrollment makeup.

Yikes, I had just assumed that Coach Lenti had made a decision to retire after a long and successful career. I hope that they were upfront with Jordan about what he is walking into. I am not sure that I would want to start my HS coaching career in this situation.

That said, both Coach Lenti and Jordan are class acts and hopefully this unfolds in a manner that works out well for both of them. Coach Lenti could be very helpful to Jordan as a mentor as he gets his feet under him. I know that Jordan is well prepared for this opportunity but you can never have too much support.

RE: JORDAN LYNCH new Head coach Mt. Carmel - HuskiePride12 - 12-30-2017 12:37 PM

It sounds like the way a lot of college coaches are going. Want someone that they can relate to and just younger. The recruits are just more drawn to them. Like the Flecks,Campbell's,frosts of the college game.

RE: JORDAN LYNCH new Head coach Mt. Carmel - BDB5yp - 12-30-2017 04:05 PM

I can’t imagine him making more money coaching a High School team.....

RE: JORDAN LYNCH new Head coach Mt. Carmel - NIUfrank - 12-30-2017 05:12 PM

I bet he does or close too it. Like I said what could he have been getting as a first year rb coach at NIU.

RE: JORDAN LYNCH new Head coach Mt. Carmel - HuskiePride12 - 12-30-2017 05:46 PM

My guess is he's making less. I think some of the WR / RB previous years were around 80k. He's not a teacher there so I would be surprised he's making close to that just being a high school coach.

Not all career decisions are driven by salary. My wife and I spent the majority of our careers working for non-profits and with our professions we could have made a ton more money working in industry.

We have no regrets as our lives were rewarding, we were able to raise and educate two daughters and we were both able to save enough to retire this year.

I wish Jordan well and based on his character and work ethic I know that he will find long term success wherever life takes him.

+1 maybe he’s invested some of his CFL money and can live comfortably without the coaching income.

As I stated on a previous page, high school coaches maximize their income by conducting summer camps for football and also doing speaking engagements.
