Historic Cold Front may come New Years Day - Fort Bend Owl - 12-27-2017 07:14 AM
Heads up - it's a bit early to know for sure but some reliable weather forecast systems are predicting a strong and super cold front hitting much of the central and eastern United States around New Years Day. One early report said 9 degrees for Atlanta as a low on New Years Day, although the latest runs have warmed it up a bit since then.
If they are accurate though, we're looking at snow and ice for much of the southern states which would be bad any day, but if it comes a bit earlier (New Years Eve)....well that could be tragic really based on the timing. Yesterday Accuweather was saying a low of 16 on New Years Day for Houston but today it's up to 20 degrees (although a chance of ice that night). Accuweather's long-range forecasts are incredibly inaccurate, but I do like looking at their 90-day forecasts just for kicks anyway.
Something to keep an eye on. And no, a strong cold front like this does not mean global warming doesn't exist. About the only thing I'll say on that is the La Nina which supposedly is in effect which normally gives us warmer and dryer winters doesn't seem to be a strong one thus far this winter in Houston at least.

Old friends in Tampa have to deal with a 'cold wave' with lows in the forties and highs in the fifties over the next week or two, time for them to pull out their parkas! I'm paying for my time spent there now that I'm in Illinois, your blood thins out when you're down south...

But you're missing the key point...the weather in one part of the globe for one small period is not proof of anything really...especially not globally.

i was born in minot. why not? couple feet of snow on the ground, can't see the house which is 20 feet in front of you cuz the blizzard. a snowsuit was as normal as putting on a jacket. the perfect environment of an unattended three year old and his idiot brother

Is this planet getting warmer, likely yes. That said, the planet got colder (Ice Age) then warmer, when the potential for man-made climate change did not exist. Al Gore said we had to act 20 years ago or it would be too late, No real change by any government and yet the world is still here. IF man is causing any real impact to climate, it's by clear cutting woodlands and forests across the global. Those areas serve to reduce C02 and have diminished at a faster rate than CO2 output. I cringe when I hear about governments taxing livestock farmers for their cattle's CO2 output, That effectively is a tax on the poor and middle class and one example of government trying to change people's behavior by restricting diet options when beef is too expensive for the average person.

It has been in the upper 20s and 30s this entire month up here in the Arctic. Even most red blooded conservatives in AK no longer deny climate change, as we see its effects rapidly in the northern part of the state.
