Andre Edwards - seagrove10 - 12-22-2017 03:33 PM

Heard today that he has been dismissed from the team. Any details out there?

RE: Andre Edwards - etsubuc - 12-22-2017 03:51 PM

JC Press reports academics- which is weird to officially hear about isnt it?

RE: Andre Edwards - MTBuc - 12-22-2017 03:55 PM

I was afraid of that. The team will be fine but that's a lot of wasted potential that he's thrown away.

RE: Andre Edwards - BucDoctor - 12-22-2017 04:26 PM

And some of you folks want to bet the football farm on Jucos.

That's too bad. I liked the way he played and it seemed as if he wanted to be here. Does this mean we might see Kendrick Gray? or will he continue to be a mystery too?

One JUCO gets booted and you're doubting their value? Some mighty fine cherry picking there.

There are reasons that JUCOs didn't sign coming out of high school. 1. Academics, 2. Social, 3. Skill. Although some fall through the cracks, most with D1 skill coming out of high school don't go the JUCO route.

Not picking fruit, this is serious. Edwards departure is probably a two APR point loss. One for not staying in school and one for not being academically eligible. According to the NCAA database, ETSU had the Southern Conference's lowest men's basketball APR (933) for the most current reportable year 14-15. 07-coffee3

The problem with this is he could probably go to a "big" school and have no problem.

North Carolina would be a perfect fit. We all know that UNC really stands for Usually No Classes. 04-cheers

RE: Andre Edwards - Bucfaithful - 12-22-2017 05:45 PM

I understand the implications. That's not my point. This could just as well of been a high school kid who was ruled ineligible. Implying that recruiting JUCO's are the problem is inaccurate. Moreover, what about the all the JUCO's who have been successful and boosted the team's APR?

That's cherry picking.

Dang. I hope this doesn’t diminish our spirit tonight.

RE: Andre Edwards - swvabucsfan - 12-22-2017 06:44 PM

Wondered why he wasn't on the floor. Payne is, though.

Yeah I really hate all this winning we are having in basketball with jucos. Disgusting.

I hate this at many levels for him and the team. I genuinely hope it works out in some good way for him.

IF Edwards loss drops ETSU below 930 on APR then it is likely that the Bucs will lose 4 hours of practice and that time has to be spent in mandatory study hall. How's that gonna impact winning with the Jucos and recruiting?

I have nothing against Jucos, it is just that they bring risks that traditional freshmen don't bring.

Jucos didn't sign with a D1 out of high school for a reason. Their ultimate basketball/football goal wasn't to play for a community college and they went to a community college to address some weaknesses and often not in athletic skills.

It is an extremely risky route to take for football.

RE: Andre Edwards - prosec34 - 12-23-2017 09:55 PM

Four hours of practice. Big wow.

One JUCO kid fails and one fan pipes up that JUCOs are risky without addressing the many who have benefitted our program. All kids are risky. As a mid-major, we have to find talent wherever it exists, JUCOs included.

I have to see it hurting other schools also. So far I have seen no penalties for any other school.

Y’all need to relax. The program is not in danger of penalties. AE’s departure is of his own doing - or lack of - and this team will be just fine without him.

Maybe, but as has already been correctly pointed out......we lose the Fordham game without him. The team was most certainly *not* just fine without him - in that game. True enough, the team has matured and jelled quite a bit since then - but so have some of our opponents.

To say we won't have other losses because of his absence is just wild speculation - and perhaps just wrong. We don't know, and likely *won't* ever know for sure. No, we're not going to fall apart, but he brought something to the table no one else has to this point. Hodges has some of what he has, and Hodges has some things he didn't have, but the difference in being something like 22-10 vs. 25-7 is tremendous when it comes to seeding. I'm referring to the NCAAs, but it could make a difference in conference seeding, too. We just don't know. I guess it all depends on how one defines "fine"....
