Are we the ONLY University in the Universe that builds a beautiful, modern new Residence Hall called New Hall and five years later it's still called.......NEW HALL! 03-banghead

Thank you...Have a great weekend everybody! 04-cheers

It's a naming opportunity....for the right amount $$$$$$$

I worked for a small private college in North Carolina in the 90s. The President started at the school around 1984. He told me that when he started, you could have had the college named after you for just a $5 million donation. When he and I were speaking about the subject in the mid-90's, he told me that for $5 million they would name a street on campus for you.

Just need that wealthy alum who wants a building named after him/her to bring forth a check. Or, in the case of Campbell University, find a family with money that wants to remember someone. Their basketball arena is named for a child who died at the age of 4 or 5. The family was strong Campbell supporters.

Pretty sure planes landing at O'hare from the west can see the Convo. Another opportunity to sell roof graphics.

pretty sure passengers on planes overhead near DeKalb unable to barely pick out city/campus at the elevation approaching Ohare.

When flying over Lake Michigan into Ohare cannot read any ground level texts until reaching Harlem Ave/Cumberland Ave07-coffee3

Pretty sure there is nobody responsible for such an expenditure that is going to consider a graphic on the Convo as an "opportunity" worth investing in.
We've got to quit grasping for straws.
Question for RitzHuskie or BDB5yp: If you were at Michigan State, why would you consider Frazier to be a good hire? What exactly has he done for NIU that MSU would want or need to emulate?
Have to agree with randyfensfanclub1, the Master(bation) Plan has been a pipe dream all along. There are posters who advocate dropping one or more sports, be it baseball, gymnastics, wrestling, men's soccer or whatever. "IF" that is a consideration by STF or NIU, then scrap those things. With enrollment declining, budget issues, decreasing attendance; don't even mention an Olympic Sports Village or Indoor Tennis Center.
HuskieJohn started this thread citing "totally new renderings" for a baseball stadium -- why if it will be dropped? Same for the gymnastic pit, or the soccer & track rendering with new stands and press box -- get real, those are no more needed than expanding Huskie Stadium when the attendance average is less than 15K. Please don't come back with the "make NIU more attractive" for the AAC, C-USA, or whatever "expansion domino dream."
As Dog Fan duly noted, the marketing has been terrible because it's received less attention than STF's G5 play-off. It's time to prioritize the one or two aspects -- perhaps the nutrition center -- that can have the most positive affect on Huskie athletics.

My only response to STF being a good hire for them, is although we have master plan pipe dreams about the master plan, attendance, etc. I do give STF credit for running a "clean" and at least "competitive" program at this level on a minimal budget. In what MSU will be facing they will need someone to clean and revamp that program from the bottom all the way up to Izzo himself. That is why I would consider STF to be at least a viable candidate. Not that he'll get the job, but I would think he is a candidate.

“I’m excited that the process we started several months ago has reached the point where we can now move forward with the public posting of the RFP,” Frazier said

“Over the last year, we have had multiple inquiries and discussions with respect to the Convocation Center and naming rights, and feel confident we will have great interest from not only local, but regional and national brands,” Frazier said

Dropping a sport violates Title IX. I'm pretty sure you have to drop two.

I will say that if I was the naming rights company, I would make sure there was something in the contract that they have to have more non NIU events there. It seems like less and less concerts are held there.

Too bad the Paperback Grotto closed. They'd be a perfect partner. I can just imagine what would be put on the roof.

I'd give a couple thousand if I could get a urinal or bathroom stall named after me, complete with lights and a plaque.

isn't it still open, just under a different name?

It is now called Lover's Playground. Yes, it's an adult store, but it is not at the raw, earthy level of the Grotto. It was classed up a bit. Nothing will ever replace the Grotto. Just the stains on the walls had so many stories to tell.

If that's the case we can't drop any and keep a D1 status. Must carry 16 sports.

Women's track and field counts as two separate sports, indoor and outdoor, giving us 17 sports. NCAA does allow for a school to only have 6 men's teams as long as there are a minimum of 8 women's teams. So yes there is room to drop a men's sport.

Over the years, the Grotto was responsible for getting lots of Rods extended. I think it was part of their mission statement.

How much would the Convo cost if built today? 100 million?
Master plan needs to get going before prices double.

The press release should have listed the facilities value in current dollars, more impressive then stating what we spent 15 years ago....
