A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - BIGDTiger - 12-03-2017 08:29 PM

1. Sit Conley for the rest of the season. He has been to injury prone for the last four seasons and needs to rest his body.

2. Trade Marc Gasol to the Cavs for Jose Calderon, Tristin Thompson and the Cavs first round pick from the Nets.

3. Lock Tyreke Evans into to a long term contract.

4. Start rebuilding with what would be two potential top 5 picks.

5. Fire Chris Wallace before he has a chance to make those picks.

6. Amnesty Chandler Parsons and kick him in the Mississippi River.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - Tigx - 12-03-2017 09:27 PM

Yikes. Your points show why the blow it up route rarely turns out well.

No way Cleveland trades that pick. It was the key to the Kyrie trade, Cavs need it for the rebuild when/if Lebron leaves next summer.

And there is no amnesty clause in the current CBA.

What method are they using now?

They are supposed to use the common sense method. I believe there is a rule that prevents teams from signing long term deals to players over the age of 36 or 38 (not sure which), but I don't think there is any other way to rid a team of enormous contracts. All the players that would have fallen into that category are now off those contracts. I believe that provision was eliminated in the last CBA.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - fishman6581 - 12-04-2017 10:55 AM

There is the stretch provision which, and this is just a rumor, but evidently we did not put that in Parson's contract.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - Tigx - 12-04-2017 12:16 PM

Hey Fishman. Stretch provision is part of the CBA. It cannot be excluded from any individual player contract, it is a tool any team can use. Team has to use it by Aug. 31st of each year.

Rule for stretch provision is team can stretch and pay off player over twice the number of years remaining on his contract, plus one.

So if we owe Chandler $24.1M next year and $25.1M in '19-'20, totals $49.2M. 2 years left x 2 plus 1 equals 5 years. $49.2M / 5 = $ 9.85M per year off their cap for the next 5 years.

IMO, highly unlikely they do that with 2 years left. With one year left, who knows?

Obviously not a max player, but Chandler has played pretty well this year. 16.3 PER, 48% from three.

Yep, Chandler Parsons is not the problem with this team...

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - Tigx - 12-04-2017 03:22 PM

I think the more likely ending for Chandler is a trade. Luckily, we could only offer him 4 years, so half-way through contract at the end of the season. Fizz was very pro-Chandler, and we don't really know about J.B. yet. But J.B. might not be more than interim anyway, next coach or maybe G.M. might not be Chandler fans.

Orlando could be in for a re-build. Keep getting high draft picks, keep losing. Might need to sell tickets, and Chandler is from the area and popular there. Would have to take a bad contract back, but not a max bad contract. Something to watch, I guess.

Thank god. Bad rumor.

Nobody's trading for Chandler, you'd have to take an even worse contract back, and there probably isn't one out there.

I'm not a Parson's hater, I think the guy can play but the injuries have sapped his athleticism. He used to be a guy who could get into the lane and pull up or finish, now he's just a jump shooter / occasional facilitator.

Parsons for sure has to be used differently in the offense. Hopefully TJ can tweak the offense a bit to take advantage of Tyreke's ability to drive and Marc's post up presence to maximize Chandler's spot and shoot abilities.

Not true. Any NBA contract is tradable. We see it every season. Especially that summer that Chandler signed in '15 when the cap went up so much, lots of bad contracts teams would like to move. Mozgov owed $48M over 3 years this summer, Lakers gave up D'Angelo, and Brooklyn took the contract. And Lakers got back Kyle Kuzma and Brook Lopez.

Wallace could trade Chandler to the Knicks for Yannick Noah any time he wants, Phil Jackson is gone, Knicks want to move him.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - natebshaw - 12-08-2017 09:34 AM

Trade every asset, trade Gasol, Evans, and that's probably the only two people that you could actually get something of a descent return on.

It's time to tear it down.

Prior to the draft, though, there needs to be a new front office put in place due to the incompetence of their drafting ability.

Blow it up! Don't half-*** a rebuild. It's gotta be ugly. Wallace can't be allowed to oversee it wither

I got it my first try and they had us drafting the Duke Pf

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - Latilleon - 12-10-2017 10:44 AM

I’d sit Conley. Go for the lottery this year.

Losing next year is pointless unless we got a top pick because of the trade to Boston.

Cleveland would trade that pick if Lebron wants them to trade the pick. Plus the Nets aren’t doing too poorly. So the pick might not be a top seven pick.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz - k2tigers - 12-10-2017 11:02 AM

I'm not opposed to "graciously" tanking this year, but it would need to be enough to get into the top half of the lottery - like picks 1-6 - versus the back half. And that's going to hurt attendance this year of course - it already has - you know how Memphis is.

Not getting much for Tyreke, he's on a one year deal.
