GS Staff 2018 - JCGSU - 11-28-2017 12:24 PM

From what I hear we might be running the Army offense and App may be losing a coach....take it with a grain of salt.

Bummed Cook will not get another year he got a raw deal and we will be wasting 205K.

RE: GS Staff 2018 - TrueBlueDrew - 11-28-2017 01:12 PM

I don’t get why they would fire Cook and hire another option coach. Seems like a waste of money to me. Cook can install the same offense they run at Army.

If the rumors of Sloan and Cabral coming to Statesboro are true, I’ll really be excited

RE: GS Staff 2018 - NewJersey GATA - 11-28-2017 01:14 PM

Does that mean Bodine is out or in?

RE: GS Staff 2018 - hapapp - 11-28-2017 01:15 PM

I would hate to lose Sloan but totally understand why he would leave. I would assume it would be as the DC and more $$.

RE: GS Staff 2018 - NewJersey GATA - 11-28-2017 01:16 PM

if Sloan makes the move to be DC, will a recruit or 2 jump ship with him? Should make things interesting

Absolutely would be DC and possibly recruiting coordinator.

RE: GS Staff 2018 - hapapp - 11-28-2017 01:45 PM

He has a policy that says he will only take a kid under those circumstances if the kid does the initial contact. He's a good guy and, if he goes, will serve you well as a DC and recruiting coordinator.

RE: GS Staff 2018 - AppManDG - 11-28-2017 02:00 PM

I'm holding off until it happens. There was a lot of talk about several of App's staff going to GASt a year ago.

also heard Kennesaw state's OC being tossed out there. Apparently Lunsford and Cook don't get along. May have to do with CL giving the play calling duties to Bodine.

If we brought in Sloan from App as DC, and Vic Cabral as DL Coach, we would have one incredible staff for recruiting.

Interesting situation if you're a coach - I mean, what do you say to a kid.

"Hey, uh, yesterday you know I told you that GS is a dumpster fire and they aren't going to be competing with us for the next 4 years, but I'm actually coaching there now, so with your help we can crush App!"

Same thing in the business world. I've gone to work for my previous main competition and most people understand it's just the nature of the business. At the end of the day it's all about relationships.

You have met our AD right? Cook had no connection with Lunsford prior, Lunsford strikes me as a good ole boy guy if there ever was one. Expect someone with ties to his past with GS I would imagine.

Appholes what is the 411 on Sloan?

I think working adults would understand better than teenage boys and their mamas.

RE: GS Staff 2018 - TrueBlueAlum - 11-29-2017 12:18 PM

Would be Sloan's 2nd stint at GS. Apparently he and Lunsford go WAAY back.

1997-1999: They both worked at Georgia Military College
2003-2005: They both worked at Georgia Southern
2006: They both worked at Griffin HS

So that rumor probably has legs.

Same here. Deal with it daily for the past 2 years as a salesman. The key is to not go over board with bashing your ex company. I like to drop subtle, little comments ever so often.

We all good if Ware comes back? I am iffy, not really wanting to go back under center now Werts and Kado have both struggled with it. Army is in the shotgun a lot hopefully that is what he brings here.

RE: GS Staff 2018 - TheEagleWay - 11-30-2017 04:12 PM

I'm expecting more of a Fritz style than I would a Monken style at this point.

LOVE when rumors are stated as facts lol

Based on some of CL's favorite "coach speak" phrases, I think he leans more toward Willie's overall coaching style than Monken's. Of course, he was exposed to that more recently and for a year longer as well. I'm ok with it; loved Coach Monken to death, but I really, really liked WF's style of coaching.

Willie Fritz was probably one of the smartest and most technically sound coaches GS has ever had.
