Playoff disaster? - cb4029 - 11-26-2017 08:21 AM

If Bama doesn't get in. Do they cry about it and push to expand the field to 6-8 teams? I want to see them cry about it. 05-stirthepot

The top clear cut way Bama gets left out with rankings from this past week:

#3 Clemson beats #2 Miami in ACC CG (Miami lost so they won’t be #2 but still should be in top 10
#4 Oklahoma beats #12 TCU in Big 12 CG
#5 Wisconsin beats #9 Ohio St in Big 10 CG
#6 Auburn vs #7 Georgia is a virtual play in game

With 1 Alabama and 2 Miami losing the new rankings “should” bump those 2 to probably 5 and 7 (or 8). #8 Notre Dame lost so Ohio St and TCU should both move up.

My guess at new rankings
1 - Clemson
2 - Oklahoma
3 - Wisconsin
4 - Auburn
5 - Alabama
6 - Georgia
7 - Ohio St
8 - Miami
9 - USC
10 - TCU

Penn St and Notre Dame drop out of top 10

And it’s only a matter of time until they expand it to 8 because with only 4 spots one of the P5 leagues are guaranteed to be left out and when Notre Dame has its 1 good year every 10 years it could mean 2 get left out

They screwed themselves by limiting it to four teams. In this format, no conference non-champion should be allowed in the top four. If the field were bigger then top also-rans could compete and win their way back in. Like 8 teams with 5 champs and 3 at-large. But with only a top 4 it should be mandatory they win their conference to be eligible.

My guess is the winner of Auburn/Georgia will be in, Wisc/OSU, and Miami/Clemson, but no idea who will be the other. Best of PAC or B12?

Chaos. Please, Lord. Let there be Chaos. (and Gumps staying home). Amen.

RE: Playoff disaster? - Guardian - 11-26-2017 11:34 AM

In some years, they could be in. This year, there are other teams that have better resumes, so as much as I hate to say it, I think Alabama stays out of the CFP this year.

2 $EC teams get in. Watch and see. A conference championship winner like Oklahoma, Miami or Clemson gets left at home.

Only way Bama gets in is if Wisconsin or Oklahoma loses. Ohio State and TCU won't jump them with 2 losses. Auburn/Georgia will get in as will Clemson/Miami.

I think they end up with 2 SEC teams getting in. That means TWO P5 champs are left out. Thats what I think would be the best trigger to expand the playoff so that all 5 power conference champs automatically qualify. I think this would require that the top G5 champ automatically qualify as well to avoid anti-trust issues. That really would be the best possible outcome for the G5. Its still not fair, but I could live with that. At least there is an actual legit avenue to the play off for the 65 or so G5 schools with that set up (something we do not have right now).

Alabama does not have the SOS this year. They barely squeaked by MS state who's got 4 losses. They can't even win their division in their conference. What really has hurt them is how bad Florida State turned out to be. Sorry, bama is not getting in. I predict these will be the top 4:

Oklahoma
Miami (they are going to beat Clemson and jump in, just see)
Wisconsin
UGA (hard to beat a team twice in the same year, the dogs are out for vengeance!!!)

It's sad when you see how much a network (ESPN) is lobbying for schools to be in. ESPN is doing all they can to lobby for Bama and Ohio State. They are their cash cows.

OSU can’t be in over Oklahoma after that beat down they were given. Under no circumstances, even if they rout Wisconsin.

Agreed. And if Notre Dame hadn't taken another beatdown, they'd be lobbying for the Irish too.

Alabama shouldn't be in the playoff mix this year. Moving the Tide ahead of any of the expected Top 4 mentioned below would be suicide for the playoff system.

1 - Clemson - You can't leave the #1 team out
2 - Oklahoma - Heisman Trophy winner with wins over Ohio St, Okla St, TCU & Texas
3 - Wisconsin - You can't leave out an undefeated Big 10 team with wins over both Michigan & Ohio St
4 - Auburn - You can't leave out the team that just beat Bama by 12 points this late in the season

5 - Alabama
6 - Georgia
7 - Ohio St
8 - Miami
9 - USC
10 - TCU

I’d rather Bammer get in so that 2 so called “power” 5 confs get left out. Having the PAC 12 & Big 12 or whomever else would raise more hell than just Bama being cranky... maybe.

RE: Playoff disaster? - NCowl - 11-27-2017 08:20 AM

any time Bama and Ohio State get left out.... it's a good year!

RE: Playoff disaster? - WKUFan518 - 11-27-2017 08:40 AM

Ohio St. will beat Wisconsin....Wisconsin has played no one, has to be one of the weakest schedules we have seen in years, they don't deserve to be in and wouldn't surprise me if Ohio ST. beats them down Saturday....I think Georgia will beat Auburn, will be tough for Auburn coming off such an emotional win vs. Bama.....If that happens its Clemson, Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia....Write it down and ESPN is praying for this scenario...

RE: Playoff disaster? - THUNDERStruck73 - 11-27-2017 11:34 AM

Alabama played one game against an FCS team.
Their best win is over #18 LSU
It's impossible for them to win their division, let alone the SEC

If they get in over teams who play that 13th game it will be the biggest farce.
