Lot of stats in our favor, but ZERO bench points and 3-15 from three is killing us. We're getting TO's, scoring on the break, rebounding, etc.

Loyola is a 4 point favorite in this game. Hawks can score, but can't defend. UNCW's only hope is to outscore people and they can do that but you can't give up 57%. Hawks out rebound them and have more fast break points so that's good. Loyola is picked high in the Valley and is undefeated.

RE: Savannah Games - solohawks - 11-24-2017 06:00 PM

Gotta cut the turnovers

Riley posted that Loyola has 10 points off our 8 turnovers

That's the deficit right there

RE: Savannah Games - Seahawkhoops - 11-24-2017 06:16 PM

17-0 run and NO TIMEOUT

RE: Savannah Games - B_Hawk06 - 11-24-2017 06:16 PM

Not even competing in this game anymore. Down 45-72.

Absolute drubbing.

RE: Savannah Games - Seahawkhoops - 11-24-2017 06:21 PM

Losing faith and fast. Defense has not shown any signs of improvement at all. And he has to realize that at this level you get down 15 + you lose 99% of the time. It’s not Carolina, you don’t have the horses where you can afford to let a run go that far without calling a damn timeout!

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2017 06:28 PM

Unbelievably bad performance by UNCW in the 2nd half. I've never listened to as a big of a disaster as this is.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2017 06:30 PM

Yep, I would have loved to have heard a TO. It didn't even sound like a zone was attempted.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2017 06:32 PM

LOL...their coach calls a TO after back to back baskets by UNCW with Cacok already fouled out. May as well get the big guy some minutes now since it's over. We knew that it was going to be hard this year after losing Bryce and now the injury to Matt but this is unacceptable. I can handle losing but not like this. This team has way more talent than this.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2017 06:52 PM

Etoroma bringing smarts and energy. Richmond getting some minutes and points.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2017 06:57 PM

Brian Mull not digging the defensive effort. He pointed out that it's not like UNCW doesn't have talent because they have 2 of the top 10 players in the CAA and 3 of the top 20 players (according to Brian). If they could just defend at all, they would win a lot of games. To me, I'd experiment with some zone at this point. They shot 60% from the floor which is 20% higher than desirable. Teams are shooting over 40% from 3 against the Hawks.

RE: Savannah Games - 82hawk - 11-24-2017 06:58 PM

This was my biggest fear. It's easy to lose the faith of the players and fan support if we are getting blown out. Except for Kalina and the freshmen most of our players have experienced nothing but success at UNCW. McGrath needs to come up with a different plan and quick. As was stated, we have too much talent to get blown out like, this.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2017 07:00 PM

Marcus Bryan played hard tonight and deserves some love. Devonte just didn't have it tonight which is very rare. Fouling out so early was a killer. At least some of the other guys got some minutes tonight. I'd really consider any combination right now, including Etoroma. Getting stops has to be the big thing right about now.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-24-2017 07:11 PM

After looking at their roster, I can see why we had trouble with their transition game. Good grief. They have a ton of guys that are very big guards that are tanks. This was a bad matchup to play a transition game with them...which is what UNCW does. I'd like to see how they do going forward.

Uh Oh...we're playing another undefeated team again tonight! Good test to see if the defense can get better!!!

I don't know if it would make anything "better", but like others here, I would love to hear about a press and/or zone set or two happening.

Me too CG! '82 was writing about that earlier today.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-25-2017 06:49 PM

It sounds like help is on the way speaking of defense. Sims sounds like a really good one and the PG is a ball hawker.

Hawks playing better tonight thus far! Much more activity on the defensive end and the game is tied at 16. They probably won't keep it up against an undefeated and experienced Valpo team, BUT this has been refreshing to listen to.

RE: Savannah Games - billthebighawksfan - 11-25-2017 08:24 PM

Game tied at half with Valpo. Hawks had the lead for most of the half but couldn't score at the end of the half very well. Taylor sat for a long time. Hawks defense was the best that it's been all year.

Davidson about to go down to App State and are getting crushed.
