In 32 years as a fan..... - Karl B - 11-11-2017 08:36 PM

This is the lowest I've ever felt about the program. I was there and that was the worst performance and most embarrassing loss in my tenure as a fan. We were Out played, Out hustled and out coached. The defense was a rumour. Undisciplined and unmotivated. No excuse to leave their shooters open all game long. No halftime adjustments or the players ignored them. Either way a problem. For those of you that weren't there, count your blessings. I would say last in the league is dead accurate. This is a severe blow to our program.

I am glad I’m not there to see it.

Upsets happen every night. I agree, if it wasn't an upset we are in trouble. But one game doesn't define a season.

I have to agree with Karl. This might be the worst loss in the history of the program. it's an embarrassment and and if Wes isn't on the hot seat to some degree than the AD is not doing his job very well. I have already had one OBU alumnus call me and rub it in real good. it's a feather on their cap as much as it is a dagger in our hearts

RE: In 32 years as a fan..... - MICHAELSPAPPY - 11-11-2017 10:19 PM

You won't win much when you let your opponents shoot 50% from the arc.

RE: In 32 years as a fan..... - UALR92 - 11-11-2017 10:23 PM

Beard despised highlight reel antics and it seems like that is what Little Rock basketball has become and the result was predictable.

I saw the "coaching" handwriting on the wall last year, this guy is not head coach material. That's why I wasn't there, and won't be.

Hopefully the Lady Trojans can show the men how to play and most of all... WIN!

RE: In 32 years as a fan..... - UALR92 - 11-12-2017 09:41 AM

The Lady Trojans have one of the best coaches around. the men could have had a quality coach if the knee jerk didn't happen. Amazing how that much momentum and excitement in a program can be wiped out with a bad hire.

exhibition loss to Harding to start 2009-2010 season...

Trojans Drop Exhibition Game To Harding, 80-77

RE: In 32 years as a fan..... - UALR92 - 11-12-2017 05:23 PM

the Harding loss was a tough one too. How Shields was here as long as he was still amazes me. Mediocrity should never be allowed to continue that long. I am attending the UCA and Little Rock game in Conway in December when I visit my daughter at college. Should be a tough one to win based on this debacle.

Went to overtime last year, so I have no doubt it will be a very tough game to win.

The ironic things is that if OBU shoots a mere 43% (12 of 28) from the arc, we win by 5 points and go our way grumbling, but admitting that the 3-point shot is the Great Equalizer in basketball.

The thing that worries me is that lack of perimeter defense was one of our weakest factors last season, and if it still is this season, then we have mega-problems, since the Arc totally dominates basketball these days. Everyone has shooters these days, and if they see blood on the water they will eat our lunch from 3-point range.

I am not reading too much into one game with a bunch of new faces, but it definitely is a Cause For Concern.

I guess this sentence in the official release is what bothered me most: "Head coach Wes Flanigan said in the postgame press conference that the team will take the loss as a learning experiences, choosing to focus on the positives rather than the negatives." Good grief! When you get beaten by a non-D1 school, you had fairly well better be concentrating on the negatives and getting them fixed - in short order!

RE: In 32 years as a fan..... - MICHAELSPAPPY - 11-12-2017 07:01 PM

We are starting two walk-ons?!

Looking on the bright side (if there is one) - MICHAELSPAPPY - 11-12-2017 07:04 PM

We only had 11 turnovers.
Oliver Black was strong on the boards again.
Damir Hadzic may be the shooter we were hoping for.
Mompremier had 11 points in 14 minutes in his first Trojan game.
Camron Reedus did not miss any games because of his injury.

Folks, this is from Karl B, the most level headed contributor to this forum. Chasse Conque, take note.

Agree. Another year or two of Flannigan ball and mjs and Doc will be the only ones on this board left. Amazing how you can go from hiring Beard one year, and less than a later hire Flannigan. Chase couldn't do anything wrong that first year, then BINGO, it we went from the penthouse to the shithouse.

I listened to Wes talk about the loss and what I heard was excuses. what kinda attendance was there? from the pictures it looked like about 1500 at the most.

That's about how I would assess the situation. 10 new players. Dennis Nutt is likely the best coach in the Gulf South. **** happens. Once these kids learn to play together, I think we'll be fine. Problem is we are mostly likely looking at 0-4 heading into the 2 games Thanksgiving weekend. If we lose those 2, I'll start getting seriously concerned.
