I think it’s disingenuous when people don’t factor that in to these discussions. They are always going to be ranked lower on the social totem pole than their professional peers. In that way, there are radically different then they would be if they were located in a place like Syracuse, NY, Norman, OK, or Starkville, MS.

It's just a fact of life that when visiting teams come to play there are a disappropriate number of opposing team fans who attend the games. It's just the nature of the area and not as much a bashing of lackadaisical fan base (as most non-fans want to think).

And that helps create that "lov'em or hat'em" attitude, and most importantly, a chip on the shoulder or edge for the Miami team. And the old Orange Bowl, was a most dominate home field advantage for the Canes. Hard Rock does not rival the old stadium where fans were on top of the opposing teams. We parked in Cuban families yard and had to use the sinks as urinals. It was a terrible stadium with no amenities but was a vital part of one of the most successful college runs ever.

To the snickers who want to continue to bash Miami and use the cutesy convict identify, I'll relish watching those same fans who want to sucker punch the Canes eat lots of crow, if the Canes beat ND. And it only builds interest in the game. With all the sports offering in Florida, the Canes are the hot ticket and have the greatest interest in South Florida.

I think that "trash talking" is stupid and juvenile.

Plus, I have never been able to predict game outcomes and have always feared for the worst prior to just about every game that ND has played since 1964.

I think that a revitalized rivalry between ND and Miami is a good thing.

Oh please, let's not play revisionist history. The "U" and their fanbase not only bought in to the whole "thug" identity, they basked in the glory of it. They were almost as proud of the whole "bad boy" persona as they were winning football.


You can't base an entire programs identity on the air of being "criminal" then turn around and claim that people's nicknames for such are cutesy.

That being said, it's certainly possible ND loses this weekend. Miami has a good team, no doubt. Am I going to be rooting for the Irish this weekend? Absolutely but regardless of the outcome, I'll still be cheering for The "U" to beat Clemson.

Yes The Canes are a minor league team playing in a major league town. I've always wished that the NCAA wouldn't allow them to play college football. They've never shown interest in becoming a college football team. They refuse to have a football stadium, they continue to pay players, they continue to cheat on academics. Younger people on here don't know this but Miami didn't have a basketball team until the 90's. They only started basketball because that's what ESPN required when ESPN created the Big East Football Conference and destroyed the other independents like ECU, USM, the SWC, the WAC and the SWC leftovers. Shame on ESPN for constructing this disgrace and the NCAA for allowing it. Shame, shame shame (Cersi Lanister meme someone please)
