The U Bandwagon Fans are Back...and They Gunna Thug it Up - TexanMark - 11-06-2017 01:21 PM

The nasty is back... witnessed an altercation in our area nine days ago. A Miami fan got in the face of one of my group. As I turned to tell him to get out of our section...he suddenly decided to leave. What I didn't see was two others in our group (one a former linebacker) standing behind me. LOL

The link below...watch a Miami fan got popped by a cop after she slapped him. A 30 year old nurse...hope she realizes she can get fired for doing stupid stuff like this.

Be interesting to see how things turn out with the return of Catholics v. Convicts this weekend.

You're right though, there were PLENTY of people who jumped on "The U" bandwagon..... until they started getting sanctions and the winning stopped.

Ya gotta realize a lot of fans in Miami are transplanted from Philly, Detroit, Chicago and NYC. They can get quite Rowdy. But That Cop needs to be charged with assult as well. You don't punch a gal in the face just because she lightly slapped You.

I hear you...but you assault a cop you take your chances. He only hit her once...to subdue her.

Was there a better way to handle it? Probably but the video doesn't show the events leading up to it.

That’s what makes this Catholics vs. Convicts rivalry so interesting. Miami and Notre Dame have diametrically opposed approaches to everything and yet people hate them both with a passion precisely for how each operates.

RE: The U Bandwagon Fans are Back...and They Gunna Thug it Up - Dr. Isaly von Yinzer - 11-08-2017 10:40 AM

I don’t like Miami either. However, I think the bandwagon thing is a little bit unfair. They are operating at a severe disadvantage to everyone else in that they are a minor-league team operating in a major league town.

How many teams have to compete directly against NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA? And that’s before you even get into all of the other things there are to do in South Florida. In that way, it is a lot like Southern California.

I think it’s disingenuous when people don’t factor that in to these discussions. They are always going to be ranked lower on the social totem pole than their professional peers. In that way, there are radically different then they would be if they were located in a place like Syracuse, NY, Norman, OK, or Starkville, MS.

True on many accounts. The Canes do vie for eyeballs and game day fans with all the major pro sports. Especially in South Florida there are many folks from other sections of the country who either live here full or part time. There are some of us who moved here and adopted the "U" as our primary team. As the sports team du jour that is succeeding (Dolphins a million years ago, Heat with the Big Three, hockey with their past success, and perpetual stick-in-the-eye Marlins with 1997 and 2003 WS wins), and now the Canes, that's who gets our most support. It's just a fact of life that when visiting teams come to play there are a disappropriate number of opposing team fans who attend the games. It's just the nature of the area and not as much a bashing of lackadaisical fan base (as most non-fans want to think).

And that helps create that "lov'em or hat'em" attitude, and most importantly, a chip on the shoulder or edge for the Miami team. And the old Orange Bowl, was a most dominate home field advantage for the Canes. Hard Rock does not rival the old stadium where fans were on top of the opposing teams. We parked in Cuban families yard and had to use the sinks as urinals. It was a terrible stadium with no amenities but was a vital part of one of the most successful college runs ever.

To the snickers who want to continue to bash Miami and use the cutesy convict identify, I'll relish watching those same fans who want to sucker punch the Canes eat lots of crow, if the Canes beat ND. And it only builds interest in the game. With all the sports offering in Florida, the Canes are the hot ticket and have the greatest interest in South Florida.
Go Canes!!!!!

Oh please, let's not play revisionist history. The "U" and their fanbase not only bought in to the whole "thug" identity, they basked in the glory of it. They were almost as proud of the whole "bad boy" persona as they were winning football.

You can't base an entire programs identity on the air of being "criminal" then turn around and claim that people's nicknames for such are cutesy.

That being said, it's certainly possible ND loses this weekend. Miami has a good team, no doubt. Am I going to be rooting for the Irish this weekend? Absolutely but regardless of the outcome, I'll still be cheering for The "U" to beat Clemson.

You haven't heard anything like that from me.

I think that "trash talking" is stupid and juvenile.

Plus, I have never been able to predict game outcomes and have always feared for the worst prior to just about every game that ND has played since 1964.

I think that a revitalized rivalry between ND and Miami is a good thing.

Yes The Canes are a minor league team playing in a major league town. I've always wished that the NCAA wouldn't allow them to play college football. They've never shown interest in becoming a college football team. They refuse to have a football stadium, they continue to pay players, they continue to cheat on academics. Younger people on here don't know this but Miami didn't have a basketball team until the 90's. They only started basketball because that's what ESPN required when ESPN created the Big East Football Conference and destroyed the other independents like ECU, USM, the SWC, the WAC and the SWC leftovers. Shame on ESPN for constructing this disgrace and the NCAA for allowing it. Shame, shame shame (Cersi Lanister meme someone please)

I clearly remember going to a Miami basketball game as a kid in 1987 or 88, sometime around when the Miami Heat made their debut, but I don't think the program was very old then. They lost to the Florida Gators. That's all I really remember, but I know it happened.

I am so old that I recall attending a Miami/ND game before Miami had a "Convicts" reputation.

I attended the 1980 Miami game in South Bend when the Hurricanes QB was some guy named Jim Kelly. ND won, 32-14.

That's great you are cheering for Miami. And yes, Miami does enjoy the bad boy attitude, bling, South Beach identity. And there are anti UofM fans that bring in the "cutsey" criminal comments.

Oh, it wasn't my first game. I was 23 years old in 1980........

I have been an ND fan all of my life. My first football memories are of QB John Huarte to WR Jack Snow in 1964.

Miami's bandwagon fans are frequently *awful*. They're not just bad ... they're WVU/U[sic]GA bad.

In defense of regular Miami fans ... on average most bandwagon fans aren't fun. But for whatever reason Miami's seem to be a few standard deviations worse than a normal sample.

Lol, I go back to the days whem the Canes had George Mira and the Gators had Steve Spurrier. Both were very good
